For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Newbie Navy Mom, thank God for this place!
My oldest son, and first to leave the nest, left for basic in Great Lakes, on Wed, October 9th. Tonight was the first time I caught myself thinking about him, and feeling guilty because it had been all day and I had not stopped to think of what he might be doing right now, or if he is ok. I don't mean physically, I'm sure the Navy is well prepared to handle all of his physical needs. I wonder if he is ok emotionally, if he is happy with his decision, if he is scared....I'm your stereotypical overprotective mother, if you hadn't guessed. I'm a nurse, and very used to making all the ouchies go away....I'm powerless here, and scared because I have absolutely no control. I didn't raise a sissy by any means, but how bad do they beat these kids down? I only know what I've seen in movies, and from my father who was a Marine...

My son left November 5th. I am also a nurse this is my only son , my oldest child and first one to leave home. I miss him really bad. If anyone can share anything to expect about graduation I sure would like to hear it. The recruiter said we would be able to spend time with him after graduation and possibly some on Sat. that he would leave for Charleston on Sunday. Some of the posts I've read don't sound like this is the case at all. I would really like to know how many days to plan for my trip we will be flying from Atlanta.

Since he will most likely fly out on the Saturday after PIR, plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday.

I think you just became my best friend - lol. I too am an nurse and an overprotective mom who worries way too much - and my one and only son (I have a younger daugther) hasnt even left yet. He is still a senior and is in the Navys delayed entry program. I still have him at home until June and am already anxious. I am unbelievably proud of the decision he has made and very ok with him leaving. Physically he too will be fine - hes in great shape and very disciplined when it come to his body - workingout and eating healthy - I worry about his emotional well being already!

I was a nurse as well and my son left on Oct 8th for basic. Very, very tough. On his first phone call home he told me he had a blister on his foot that got infected and he got cellulitis in his foot. (a large area it sounded like) Had to go on light duty for 5 days and took some antibiotics. Made me wish I could have tended the "ouchies" as I had before....as we all did before.
He graduates on Dec 6th and I get to see him on Thanksgiving for several hours on Nov 28th, I will cry I am sure.

Hi Masons Mom. Hope your son's foot has healed by now. I'm just wondering how you will get to see your son on Thanksgiving? I thought they were pretty much kept on base for the 9 weeks of bc. Lucky you!

Her SR is in one of the 2 TG's that qualify for the Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Sailor program. This year it is the 12/06/2013 and 12/13/2013 TG's. See What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

They sent us home a paper in mid October and on it it said that we could see our son on Thanksgiving from 10:30 am till 7:3o pm on Nov 28. If we wanted to we could adopt a sailor who had no family coming for the holiday and take his with us so we did. We are "adopting" Charlie for the day and will have him hang out with us and join us for dinner as well. We got a big hotel room so the boys can relax on the sofas, watch tv, catch up, etc.. The paper they sent us home came several weeks ago and is yellow with " Thanksgiving 2013 Adopt A Sailor Family Request Form" on it. It had to be mailed/faxed in. I am sure you could call Navy Public Affairs and inquire about it if you did not get one. Their number is 847-688-2405 email is rtc.pao@navy.mil It is about a 9 hour drive for us to go there but we did not want to miss seeing our son even if it is just for a few hours!

msmomma, bisbee73's son does not ship to the RTC until next week so he is not eligible for the Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Sailor program, but he may be eligible for the one at Christmas (or he may not get to participate in that) depending on when his PIR is.

My son left November 6th and I am sooo right where you were in October, Blakesmom. I don't consider myself over protective so much but I am definitely a VERY involved mom (ok,ok maybe a little over protective). My biggest fear about him leaving was what if he needs me, I won't be there and I've ALWAYS been there. He's my stepson but I've raised him since he was 6, every doctor appt, ortho appt, practice, game, parent teacher conference, it was my husband and I. My husband would get jealous because I'd be the one he'd call to tell me what he was doing or ask permission for something. I received his clothes today and it was such a kick in the gut. I thought I would get a mailing address for him too but no such luck :(

I am still waiting for my son to leave on Dec. 4th and I just had my first bad dream last night. I think we worry so much about them going through a tough time without us we forget that they are stronger than we realize. I too am going crazy because I have a million fears for him and he doesn't even seem worried at all. Hang in there all will be well!!!
