I'm looking for a nice place to stay in San Diego. I hear that alot of the neighborhoods in San Diego are filled with crime. I know crime is everywhere you go but I'm loooking for somewhere close to base with very little crime. I will soon have my daughter so I want somewhere nice to raise here for the time being while my sailor is stationed there. Does anyone know any nice places to stay? Thanks in advance.

Hello, which base in San Diego?  Some areas you may want to check out are La Mesa, Mission Valley, Spring Valley.  You can also maybe have your sailor check into navy housing if possible and the areas.  Hope this helps you a little, also you can go on craigslist and see what is available for you and your daughter.
I'm not sure what base but he is on ship USS Stockdale DDG 106. We have to be married for him to get navy housing correct?
Yes, you must be a spouse.  He will not receive an allowance to live offbase until he is an E-5.
So even if we were married we would not qualify for navy housing until he is an E-5?
He would receive housing allowance if you were married no matter what his rate. If he is unmarried then he has to be an E5 to get housing allowance.
I just came out here too and it is way hard to find a nice area.  We opted for base housing, because the neighborhoods are super scarey to me.  I came from Michigan so it is a complete culture shock out here.  Good Luck send him out first if possible to check out places.  Stay away from Imperial Beach, and National City oh and Logan Heights!!!!

OMG. Thanks so much for telling me about Imperial Beach, I found an apartment there. I thought that was a nice area. Im from Missouri so I'm sure I will have a culture shock. I think I will wait until we marry and consider the base housing like you did. :)
