I feel your pain.  My son is leaving next week and anxiety is what I am feeling.  Can't imagine how I will feel when he is gone.  Hang in there.  It will be okay.

I would suggest finding one of the questionaires here on this site. My son also is not a writer, but if they have the fill in the blanks questions in front of him, he probably will respond.

The good news is, after the half way point, it gets easier for him..

Once you get past the "This will be our last Sunday together", This will be our last dinner together", "This will be the last kiss good night"... you will go thru "This is the first dinner with out her/him", "This is the first Sunday without"

I am in the second phase right now in addition to going thru her room packing the last few straggling items... Very bitter sweet but now at least I can walk into the house without tearing up.  However my heart did skip a beat last night when I thought I heard her laughter from upstairs... When realized it was her little sister giggling with her friend I was disappointed yet relieved knowing that she is off becoming a Woman in the US NAVY!  And that is so much better than having her home sitting in her room waiting for the next phase of her life.

Hi Moms, just checking to see that you all are doing OK. Be sure to join your groups (for PIR) and don't forget to look at your own page (click MY PAGE). Lemonelephant has probably left you messages on where to find things. The Navy For Moms admin left you a comment w good links. Hang in there.

OMG I love you all! It is really so helpful to be able to read all of your heartfelt responces.. So on thurs I received a letterand a phone call all in the same day! it was amazing. Although I feel I have taken a backseat to his GF..She seems to come first..that kindabugs me but such is life..

My older son got married in 2012. My husband and I are just happy we still have a seats. We are very, very obedient and quiet. Suggest you learn from me. Haha. LOL  :)

I needed to see this "Food for thought"  Thanks.  Sylvia

Good afternoon all.  Well we are at the 3 week mark.  Was a little rough going last night knowing that my SR (son) has been gone that long, but know that the next 5 weeks are going to hopefully fly.  It was a good week with getting a phone call and a letter.  Hopefully, more letters to come.  Hope everyone is staying warm and not snow/ice bound.  I live in the Southeast and there are a few signs that Spring is coming.  A few green leaves buried under the leaves (I was out digging around yesterday).  Hope you have a blessed weekend.  Hugs.

I totally understand.  My son has only been gone 8 days and it seems like forever.  I didn't think I would feel this way.  Some days are better than others.  I try to keep my busy but my mind keeps wandering back to thoughts of him....what's he doing, what's going on, how's he adjusting, etc.  I am thankful for this website and the ability to share with others and know that we are not alone. :-)

Bella1974. Was it easier in the beginning and then it hit you. I think I am in denial right now with her being gone. Just wondering what to expect as time goes on

Bella1974 you are not alone, all us Navy Moms have been where you are now and yes it was hard for us also, it's hard to let go of our children because we still look at them as our babies. He will be fine and you will also, take a deep breath and know that we are here for you when you need to talk !

I feel your pain, I'd tell you it gets better (and it does) but with time. Our son is on the USS Mahan now and we miss him and try to communicate as much as we can. The letters help but you just have to tough bootcamp out and just pray and stay positive for him. He needs to know that your being strong, he doesn't need the added stress of knowing his mom is really sad while he's away. Just try to be as upbeat as you can for his sake.
