I really think this site is a great resource, but I don't think I'm fitting in well. My son left for BC yesterday and we had know since November he was. I'm not heartbroke, I'm not crying at the slightest thing, not sleeping with his pillow/shirt/stuffed animal, etc.
Not saying it wasn't hard to walk away. I cried. I worry. I'm concerned & hoping things go well, but also knowing he's going to have hard times. This is his journey though, not mine. I'm here to be strong for him & support him.
I guess seeing everyone's post make me wonder if I'm heartless. I would love to comment on posts, but I think my posts won't really feed into the tears & loneliness.....
Any others out there like me just looking for information & friends that are on the same page I am?

Hi 29junkie,
I'm new to the site and my son hasn't left yet. He's in DEP and will ship in February. I think I'll be much like you. This is not his first time leaving home. He went away to college and even spent a year in China. So I don't expect to cry myself to sleep each night. I know he'll be fine. Of course I have the usual Mom anxiety about him being in "harms way" but, I think, much like you I'll just be supportive of him.
My Daughter went to college for 2 years as well. That was no problem. Her going to boot camp is a whole other story!!! Not have any contact with them, but ONE letter a week is VERY hard. I'm not a clingy mom, but I'm very involved in my kids lives, so its hard not knowing whats going on with her.
I am in your shoes in a way. My husband is in "Ground School" in Pensacola. He is becoming an NFO. I want to find other wives or girlfriends like me. I think it will take time. I am shy...so adding random people has never been my thing either. But I think that is how you meet people.
I have been through the emotions of waiting on my husband while he was in training too. It was a horribly lonely time :( I think voicing your concerns will help your concerns through this site will help.
Half-way through my husbands training he let me know there was a face book group for family members. It saved my poor sobbing butt!! lol. I even made friends with a couple of the girls. That experience led me to this site. I love knowing there are others out there like me :)
You aren't alone!
Oh I'm sure there are MANY Moms out there just like you. I'm a Grandma of a potential SEAL but I believe my family feels the same way you do. IT IS THEIR JOURNEY and all we can do is support them in every way we can. Please don't say you don't fit in. I believe that EVERY MOM, GRANDMA, WIFE, FIANCE, etc. belong in this group to not only support our "boys" but each other. Don't give up on this group. I'm in it to also support my Daughter and Son-in-law as their son prepares for his own journey. Hang in there...hope to hear from you soon.
No...please don't think that. My youngest son left a week ago and I haven't cried either. My son is doing what he had his heart set on.....navy.com/swcc and worked very hard to be a NE Candidate. I'm proud as heck for him and can't be sad he's doing what he worked so hard to do. I also had an older son that was (is) a Marine and I was also very proud of him.
Good for you Bluebonnetts!! So proud of all of our military and their families. Bless you and yours!!!
Tks GrannyJ and I too am a Grandma....by my son that was a Marine! YEAH! :)
Yeaaaaa.....LOVE being a Grandma and all 6 of my grandchildren!! Once a Marine...always a Marine is what I hear. Many thanks to your son for his service.
No crying for me either. I'm not heartless, sure you aren't. My son worked very hard to get to where he's at, and has wanted this his entire life. I'm just so grateful he is where he is, feeling confident, meeting new friends. Can't shed tears over that. I will however, probably shed a bunch when I see him graduate and get my first hug:)
