While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

One is doing research in Antarctica and the other is a division officer on an LHD in San Diego doing pre deployment training....it has been a whirlwind year!

Well stated Sue and by the way I remember you well and you helped with such great advice last year for us.
My biggest advice is WRITE , WRITE and WRITE some more.
remember only white envelopes and white paper only. Do notting to draw attention to your LO.
As Sue stated most drops are due to the fact they discover that the program just is not for them. If this happens it will be very early on. Keep in mind if your LO rolls it is not a bad thing. My Son did not roll but said he gained great respect for the ones that rolled and hung in there and came back and graduate with another class. He felt this would help them become better Officers in the end. RLP is a big roll time. All DORs are requested by the Canidate Officer. My Son said the biggest advice he would give is listen, pay attention, do your very best and and NEVER NEVER doubt yourself.

After spending the last week with my LO at his ship's commissioning we talked about what the last year has entailed. The one thing that stuck in my mind that I should have mentioned also is teamwork is very very important at OCS. When they are commissioned and out in the fleet this becomes essential so it must start at OCS. His class struggled with this which only makes things harder.

Well, as so many wonderful "experienced" parents are chiming in, I will echo what they have said. GANavyDad, Sue, and "2" have given great advice. I also say WRITE! Start the day that they report. One thing I did with my letters is to include an "inspirational quote" or song lyrics. My LO probably only laughed at them, but any reaction was worth it. The first 3-4 weeks, when you are not hearing from your OC too much, your OC is probably getting your letters, and each one will be a bright spot in a miserable day. I also sent news clippings or a funny photo from the internet. I never heard that these caused any problems with the DI.
Some moms did form letters, with multiple choice answers for their LO to check off and return.
They also need a prepaid phone card. They have to use payphones for the first 9 weeks or so.

Does anyone know the expected graduation date for Class #09-11 beginning January 30, 2011? I know there are lots of reasons our LO's might roll to a later graduation date but, if all goes well, would graduation take place on Friday, April 22? Thanks!

Hi Tina, I am Gabe's mom Lorie. We are from Sunny Southern Cal. I am so worried about the weather there. The storm expected to arrive by "Wake-up Wednesday"! I am about to write my first letter today. I believe graduation should occur on the date you stated, with celebrations being wed/thurs??. before. I do not want to get ahead of myself, but I am also planning on those dates.

Hi Lorie - Nick mentioned Gabe to me before he left for OCS. Apparently he and Gabe both had flights that connected in Washington DC, so they were going to hang out together at the airport before their flight to Providence. I just put my first letter in the mail to Nick. I have had my phone by my side all day at work (even in the restroom!) so that I don't miss his call if he does get to call anytime soon. I checked the weather report and there does indeed seem to be a lot of snow coming their way. Thanks for clarifying their OCS graduation date (provided all goes as planned, of course). What will Gabe be doing after OCS? Nick is in the Nuclear Propulsion program.

Good morning Tina! Wow you (your son) happen to be the one that Gabe mentioned to me, that he would be sharing a ride to the base with from the DC flight. He called us the night before reporting to let us know that he had in fact met alot of people on that flight and that they all took a shuttle together to the base. Gabe stayed at the base quarters hotel and he was the only one there that he knew of. He was about to retire and had not eaten dinner, and I told him to go find out where he could get some soup. He only sent a cell-phone snapshot of some buildings covered in snow the morning of reporting. Gabe wants to be a pilot, I think the correct term is Naval Aviator.
