Already having trouble not being able to talk to him or hear how his day is. I keep crying and then I'm fine and then I'm a baby again.
How do family at home cope with our loved ones start their career military?

One day at a time. This is my third in three years. Oldest is a missile tech, middle one machinist mate in power school nuclear and youngest just got to bootcamp on Thursday. Both in are happy and that's all I need to make it easier. Make the most of holidays when you can, you don't know when they won't make it home because of deployment.
You are not alone! Mine left Tuesday and I was an absolute mess. I will still tear up if I overthink things. I decided to keep my 4 year old niece for the long weekend and it has been a huge distraction for me. I've already started a stack of letters to send off when I get the address. When we had his going away oarty, I had notecards for friends and family write to him and I will mail those as well. Anything to keep busy!
It's felt like forever already but it's barely been a week. I know I shouldn't keep track of the exact days cause that will just drive me insane. My future sailor told me he will have time on Sundays to write me letters. I just miss his voice and telling him things during the day. I like that idea that you had to give out note cards to friends and family to write him/her. Ready to get the address to send him letters!
I've been having a hard time since my daughter left last Tuesday. I miss talking to her several times a day. She's my only girl and we're very close, but joining the navy was her dream so I didn't cry I front of her but I've been crying ever since.
I'm grateful for how we said our goodbyes. Or more like-"see you soon"s. I had an emotional crying session with him and a lovey Dovey "I'll miss you so much; two more kisses" so at the swearing in ceremony I was ready and filled with pride and confidence to supporting his dream.
I relate to miss talking to our loved ones but I think they'll be able to send letters soon. I cry on and off but those emotions are valid and healthy to let out. Just think how hard they are working and know they are holding you in their heart too.
My daughter left Tuesday as well! I feel a roller coaster of emotions too. She is only 17, her bday is july 5. I couldn't be more excited and proud of her but just not being able to talk to her several times a day is really hard. Keep your chins up, graduation is next month! :)
My daughter left a week ago and I miss her dearly! We're really close and I miss talking to her!! Since I've received her mailing address I've mailed two letters. I'm guessing that it's a mom thing! But that's not going to stop me
From encouraging her!
I got the address to send letters to him!! Yes
That's awesome! I got the box today but haven't received the letter yet. Maybe tomorrow. I've been good all week but am struggling this evening. I miss him terribly.
