Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself as I am a very new Navy mom. My son signed his contract yesterday and took his oath. Its surreal and I tear up quite a bit at random lol.  I am not afraid for him, I am just going to miss him terribly. He has been the man of the house since he was about 13. He has one little sister and grandparents that love him at home. He leaves for boot camp April 26th which sounds far, but I know it will be here in a blink of an eye.

I am sure I will have questions later, but right now I just needed to share and so thankful for this site. I have been a single mom for 8 years and very soon it will be just me and my little girl waiting for phone calls and updates.  My boy is like a best friend, it feels like we grew up together. wahh ok Imma go cry now. Stay Blessed!

Oh no he LEAVES in April .. I still got him for 4 more months.. but reading everyones post and how they are feeling.. yikes I tear up alot lol .. I am so glad I found this site tho, people wont say I am being a baby like some friends who have no idea how this feels lol <3

Welcome to the site! Tell him to read up and get prepared. He will not be able to keep any of his belongings and you will not hear from him for 2-3 weeks. He will send home his belongings which you will receive in the first week. and the form letter will come in the mail. He will do great if he gets in the right mindset. This site is a great place to meet moms that are going through the same thing. You will make a lot of friendships here.

Welcome!! and thank you to your son for making this commitment.

Welcome!! We all have been there and truly know how you feel. Stay connected to this site to help you every step of the way. It truly has been beneficial for me. Just know that your Sailor is doing a great service and will return the man that the navy will groom him to be.

My Sailor left two days before Thanksgiving and I finally got a letter from her on yesterday!! I was so happy.

aww oh man!! wow I bet ... I am just trying to prepare myself, but wowzers no tougher job and no one tougher than a mother right! :) Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hang in there. My son took his oath this past June and left in November. I made sure to get hugs every day and talk to him about what to expect. While it was still hard to leave him that day at the recruiting office, I knew he would be ok. Yes, I cried, both when I left him and randomly. But I think it was easier having that special time with him between June and November. We took a trip, just the two of us, and had a great time. Some memories to hold onto when he left. He has been gone for a month now, and I've had 4 letters and 2 phone calls. You will hear from him and you will treasure every letter and every call. We're half-way to PIR and I'm looking forward to seeing him. Not sure I want to be in Great Lakes, Illinois in the middle of winter because you never know what the weather will be like, but I can't wait to see my boy. Be proud, be supportive and know that he will be in good hands.

My son will take his oath next month but won't leave until next Summer so we will get 6-8 mos to get used to the idea.  We are hoping to squeeze in a short family trip of some kind next June before he leaves too!  But I just can't imagine not seeing & talking to him every single day... no matter how crabby he is!  LOL  I am in the Midwest just a few hours from Great Lakes, IL so we will get to drop him off right at the facility... the weather here has been very mild so far this winter, lots of clouds and rain but hardly any snow or cold weather so if this continues you will have no problems weather wise going to PIR.  What does PIR stand for by the way?

When does he leave?  Mine goes June 22.

He left this morning :(   TEARS

He left this morning.. hardest morning routine of my life so far... I tried not to cry.. but it was impossible.. i miss him already.. staring at the clock knowing that right now as we speak he arrived to the recruit office in SLO. I picture my dad (his gramps) and his sister hugging him.. she is probably balling as her best brother in the whole world is now passing the torch of big kid duties to her.  I know he will be okay.. but I still see that little baby boy.. and I cant imagine him in fear, stress, or pain. UGHH so hard I am crying agian lOL

I know the feeling, I am not a single Mom but I am a Mom who's daughter left on Dec 9th, and her and I have such a close relationship it has only been 5 day since she has been gone but man it feels so much longer, and I have 8 more weeks of not knowing how she is doing if she is okay, and we are not able to write yet until the end of this week, so I have letters all ready to be mailed.  We are so incredibly proud beyond words.

And as soon as I can hear from her I know I will feel so much better, she gets to call on Christmas Day! but not having her hear for Christmas is hard, but she is doing something so brave a great with her Life that's what keeps my strong.   And other Navy Mom's have been so helpful to know in my heart that my daughter is doing great.

It seems like this is the right place to find people who know exactly how I feel . <3
