OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Orders???
Hey Everyone!
My husband just graduated BESS in Groton, CT Oct. 8th and still hasn't gotten orders. We need accompanied orders to move out there...he wants us to go ahead w/o orders but we have a 5 month old and I don't honestly think we can afford it, plus it seems like things would go a lot smoother if we waited on our orders. Although, we haven't seen each other for about 5 months now, he left for basic training when our son was 2 weeks old. Of course I want to go ASAP, but I won't risk getting there and being broke with a new baby...any advice? Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get orders after BESS? How does the whole navy moving thing work?

It can take several weeks, even a few months, but it really is better to wait until he has hard copy orders in hand. However, this time of year, orders tend to come out a bit faster. If he gets verbal orders, do NOT spend one dime until he has the hard copies in hand. Verbals can change in a heartbeat.
Once he has hard copy orders, the Navy arranges for his travel, and yours to the new duty station. Once you have orders, you can set up a move of household goods. You can DITY or have the Navy pack you out. They normally don't ship vehicles, so you might end up driving cross country, which isn't half as bad as it sounds.
If he wants to fly out to where you are and then report to his new command after, he has to pay the difference in travel.
This is a prime example of hurry up and wait.

Thank you for the info..I was reading over what you wrote and noticed that you said that this time of year orders tend to come out a bit faster. From what my husband says, everyone is telling him that the holdup is probably due to this being the end of the fiscal year..and the Navy not having the funding right now to move people out. Does this sound right at all?
They have said give it a couple more weeks every week for the past 3 weeks....so I'm wondering how long it would be? I hope we will be together at least before Christmas. Since it is our son's first Christmas...
