I know recruits are given a chance to buy a photo package if they want while they are in Boot Camp.
After that, does the Navy ever offer sailors a chance to have other professional photos (in uniform, maybe a flag in the background) taken? Don’t know if there are photography services on base. I would like to have a photo after he has finished A school and once he his at his first station.
My son is a Nuke so he actually had three schools he graduated from before heading to the fleet and I was able to attend all of them. All graduations, including BC were during their time of wearing their dress whites, so I have never seen my sailor in his dress blues, other than his BC pictures. With the lockdowns, I honestly don't know what sort of graduation ceremonies are taking place. I am fairly certain that even in SC our Nukes are not have graduations, as many of the moms are posting having to cancel their trips.
So, at this point, the best option would be for you to ask your sailor if he would please have one of his buddies take a picture of him in his uniform. There should be a location at his school where this could be done. A daughter of one of the BC Mom members sent her mother a selfie where she had stood in front of the full length mirror in her BEQ and took a picture with the mirrored reflection. It was very nice and while not professional still meant a lot to her mom. Even at my son's graduations, there were not professional photographers, only family and for his final graduation, there was a Navy sailor taking pictures of each of the graduates but we were not given an option to "purchase" a package.
They do take "professional" pictures when they are on deployment - at least on carriers I know. They do a "Cruise book" that you can purchase along with the pictures. No sure about subs though....
B'sNukeMom - Thank you!! That is good to know.
Thanks for the replies. He will be in school in Groton, CT for a few months so will talk to him to get dressed up and have a friend take a picture sometime while he is there.
You are welcome! The pictures are for us, and sometimes we have to remind our kids how important they are to us.
THAT. IS. SO. TRUE. ;-)
CryptoDad - that is the memory for sure!
