OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

PIR advice/ our experience
PIR was great, just want to give a few tips based on our experience. Schedule says that gates open at 6:30, if you want to avoid stress, get there early. There is a very long line to get in, but it moves very fast. There is a parking garage and it is a short walk to the Visitor's Center. You may have to stand outside for a bit waiting to get in, so dress warmly! You will need to show an ID and know your sailor's division#. Once inside, you walk through the Visitor's Center to the Drill Hall. It is a big hangar with bleachers on one side. You have a much better view from the upper deck, you will see signs with Division #'2 so you can sit in front of your sailor's division. I won't give any secrets about the actual PIR, it is just great though! Wear something bright and let you sailor know so he/she can pick you out of the crowd, they are looking for you just like you are looking for them! Once it is over, you can go down and meet your sailor, but the drill hall closes and everyone must leave. We walked to the exchange with my son and then he left us to get his things to move into his new barracks ( he stayed at Great Lakes), some sailors got to leave right away. After we left he base, we went to the Navy Museum and Visitor's Center which is just off base to meet him. There were a lot of other families there too. The sailor's didn't start arriving there for about 2 hours after the PIR, I recommend getting some lunch first. You will have time. We waited 3 hours. If you are leaving that night, make sure you allow travel time back to O'Hare, it took us an extra hour due to Friday travel into the city. We left for the airport at 3:30 to avoid rush hour traffic. I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan, very nice and clean. Close to the base and easy to get to. Here is our view from the upper bleachers, hope this has been helpful, glad to answer any questions!

Does any one know if there are hotels close to the camp. I believe the airport is at least 45mins from the camp and I would prefer to stay close by since we have to be there at 6:30am for the PIR.

The Holiday Inn Express in Waukegen was very nice and close, probably a 15 minute drive. It was clean and quiet and easy to find. Highly recommend.

I've already looked for Hotels and found a Marriott/Residence Inn that is 2 miles from the RTC! We will be going at the end of Jan or beginning of Feb. I just pray that it's not too snowy! We are from the south and not used to driving in snow. I WILL be there no matter what though;)
