Hello to any other fellow NAVY moms with a son in this division?  Just wanting to connect with any others? I"ve received my box, all is well, he says the guys in his division are "animals, beasts!"

I got my call today from my son!!! I was so happy to hear his voice-he got 20 minutes

. He said he had his wisdom teeth pulled and was down a day but he sounded really upbeat on the phone and said he is doing just fine. I was so relieved-July 13th cannot come soon enough

Question to group-Can we mail a phone card to them in boot camp? I was not sure if they would take it out or not can someone let me know? I really enjoy this group as it gives me another perspective on things from the other guys in the division.

Thanks!

Question to all:  Confirming zip code our son has given us 60088-7301.. but on some navy paperwork, we read 60088-7103.   Any clue as to who has transposed the number???? he says our mail takes forever to get there!!

Same exact thing happened to me.  The letters from my son had 7103 but I was sending all his mail to 7301.  I looked up the address on the Recruit Training Command website (http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp).  It said 7103. :)

Thanks momof3.. I wonder if that is why it takes so long for him to get our mail??

Sassy the other Division graduates the week before them 7/6.

You can send phone cards or he can purchase them at the NEX. They take them there to get personal items and such.

My SR called today too.  He had so much to share.  He had his wisdom teeth taken out and has received some more uniforms (dress whites and black pants/tan shirt).  He mentioned that BC is slowly becoming routine.  He's been enjoying the pool workouts and is just now coming down with a slight cold.  He was very happy to be on the phone and says he's counting down to PIR.  I wish I could have recorded the conversation as my husband was not home when he called.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

Thanks to all who have responded to my post so I will send the calling card to him. I did send the free calling cards from calls for recruits.com but he did not get them yet.  I originally booked my southwest flight into Chicago Midway since they do not fly into O'Hare. I re-booked my  southwest flight because I have rapid reward points to use (best thing I did for times like these!) and I am flying into Milwaukee which is only an hour away from base vs hour and half from Midway to  base and 3,000 points less or $120.00 one way. I also saved $95.00 on my rental care from Milwaukee as well-may want to consider this an option for those who have not booked flights yet and are flying Southwest. It is a straight route from Airport to base too! Cannot wait until the 13th!!!

HI Aurora... I did the old mapquest thing... Ohare is the closest.. about 38 minutes ( 29.5 miles) a straight drive up to GL. Midway is about 50 minutes ( 40.3 miles) a straight drive up to GL. Milwaukee is about 65 minutes (51 miles) a straight down to GL. Rockford Il is 2 hours (75 miles) --- Too far for me I dont want to spend that much time getting to and from the airport. Drive times are dependant on your arrival time and rush hour...
I think we are going to fly to Milwaukee and rent a car from there..the flights are cheaper. We have never been to Wisconsin or Illinoise. We opted to see the sights on our drive to great lakes... I hope this helps.. It is very $$$ for us as well.. Im wathicng airfare and car rentals (still )...... Southwest, US Air and Alaska have some great fares if you want to arrive at midnight... Ill let you know when I finalize my trip and if you dont mind,,keep me posted on yours... take care see you in 4 wks. .

Welcome Megs2LB:

Yes, Aurora has a fiance in the same Division.   It's the first time for Selaine6 and I.(we have sons in the Div) . so we are learning as we go.  A couple of other veteran moms on here are always very nice to respond to questions and concerns.  My understanding was that Pre-Buds which follows BC is also 8 weeks in Chicago.  I have heard that they get time to come home between Pre-Buds and BUDS.. has anybody else heard that?  Then off to BUDS for 6 months in Coronado....

I usually get a letter on Wednesday, so looking forward to tomorrow!  And tomorrow marks 4 weeks.. halfway through!

Hey Cor!

Great link for pre-Buds!  Thanks so much!  that's the most information and best video footage I've seen on it!  It sure helps to get a picture of what your boy will be doing huh?

Unfortunately, they do not come home before heading to BUDs. They can put in a chit, which is a request to come home during PreBuds, but it has to be approved. They start out in PreBuds with a 50 mile radius restriction that eventually changes to 200 miles. So if you live within that, you are one lucky person.
