oh wow.. bummer!  that means they aren't home for a long time!

They will get a break at Christmas.

Hi!

I just joined navyformoms last night and I am most interested in this group since my son is in Div 816.  I am requesting to become a member in this group.

I wish I had found you 3 weeks ago when I was feeling such a sense of loss--it was as if my son had died!  It was awful.  Then the box with his clothes came...oh, it was horrible.  I am looking forward to your friendship and support as I go through this new chapter in my life (by myself, by the way.  My husband died very suddenly 4 years ago!)

Thank you!

Fancy Nancy

Welcome Fancy Nancy!

Yes, this group is wonderful to have!  I've told all my girlfriends about it!  So grateful to have the encouragement and support of other moms.. it is HUGE!  My son is one of the younger ones -age 19.  I would agree with you on the sinking feeling of receiving "the box"... I cried when I opened it and my youngest son (age 13) cried with me too.

I received two letters today!  Hooray! He says boot camp is getting a little bit better.  He is making friends with some of the guys.. Looking forward to Battlestations.  He says "it's impossible to do anything right, even when you do it perfect... it's still wrong.. just because!"  too funny.   His favorite thing about boot camp is working out with the Dive Motivators-Ex SEALS.  They are working on their Division Flag ( what does that mean.. sewing a flag??) He likes doing laundry because there is a pull-up/chin-up bar in the room.

I'm so sorry about the passing of your husband.  Life is so unpredictable at times.  I trust you have a strong support group to lean on.   So thrilled you found us!

Welcome Fancy Nancy. Glad you found this wonderful group.I remember the day the "box" came in. I just looked at it for awhile before I could get the courage up to open it.

I am sorry to gear about your husband. I am sure he would be extremely proud of you son and is helping him along the way.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome, Selaine6! I feel better already. You are so right..sharing the news from our guys helps us get a clearer picture of what is going on in GL. I am in McHenry County, IL. I guess I am about 45 miles from GL, but I might as well be 4500 miles away!

I am very impressed with how well my SR can write! His printing is very neat, too. One of the other moms commented about that, too. I bet the guys who are doing everything right are frustrated with those who lack discipline and blow the phone call minutes. My son got engaged shortly before leaving and I am sure that helps him emotionally. My 23 year old son (college grad, summa cum laude, no job!) and my son's fiancee held a phone call vigil here all day on Friday, waiting for the call. It came around 5:30. i am glad we could do that because speaker phone allowed all of us to hear his voice for the 20 minutes.

My son has been sick with a cold, too! His has lasted for 2 weeks. He said that everyone is sick and it has been bad.

My hubby wasn't in the military, but both of my son's grandfathers were. My husbands's father was a Navy pharmacist during WWII on the USS Wasatch and my dad was a Sgt. In the Army.

My SR said in his letter that the chief played a song while they were cleaning a few days ago. He asked me to find it onitunes and download it. So, if anyone wants to do housework to the same song your recruit works to, the song is called "When the Sun Goes Down" by Kenny Chesney.

Thanks again for the welcome and I look forward to reading everyone's news.
Letting go sure is hard!

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading the posts for a few weeks now & I
finally joined.

I appreciate all the info and have been reading them
to my family and we really enjoy them.

Does anyone know what time our SR's will have to be back
Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights after PIR?

Thanks!

Welcome Baldilox...

Yep, love your name also! Have you heard from your son?   Good question.. I would love to know that too!  I wonder if sjtina  or Corrine would know those answers... they are thesuper helpful veteran moms!

Thanks, its one of a long line of names my SR has given me; new ones every so often, although this is my favorite.

We did hear from him!

We got 3 letters (Addressed to his mom, as they should be...) and the phone call.

His mom, sister, and myself had him on speaker for 20 mins, it was Great to hear from him!

His mom had tears in her eyes and after the call went upstairs to cry...you mothers are great!

He had a cold but said it wasn't that bad and was getting better and everyone is sick; it sure sounded bad.

Thanks !!

My SR son gives everyone nicknames, BaldiLox is kinda funny for a bald guy.
I think the spelling probably should have been Baldilocks, like Goldilocks...

totally agree!  spelling should be "Baldilocks!"  too cute!  Sounds like all the boys have a head cold.. mine did as well when he called last Friday mmmmm.

The last few classes had to be back at 10. My son had to be back at 8. I guess it depends on the instructors. Make sure they are back in plenty of time because they must be in their barracks at that time and not a minute later. They will have to walk from the front gate.

I am not sure if we covered PIR day, but here is the rundown. After PIR you will have about 20 minutes to spend with him. His division will move to PreBuds. Once they are released, your son can call you to come pick him back up. They cannot have cell phones at this time. He can take everything back with him at the end of the day. (laptop, cellphone, ipods, etc.) Don't forget the chargers.
