Hello All

Im wondering if the people in the stand by room have pretty good odds of actually getting in. My brother said that he cant find anyone with room on their list to add more people. Just wondering if the people on stand by have a pretty good chance at getting in. Also wondering how long the ceremony lasts and if the people dont get in is there a screen or something so they can at least watch it from where they are??

Thanks

From what I have been reading the extra people check them self in and end up in a holding room?

There is a 4 person limit for "the list". That is the only list that will guarantee admission to PIR. BUT...very rarely do extra guests not get admitted. They may have to wait (here is the "holding room") until everyone on "the list" is seated. Then, if there is room the extras get to go in. There are regulations for Safety (Fire regs) as far as how many are allowed in the PIR hall.

Make sure all of your guests know your rcts name and division and have proper id. If your PIR group is a small one (10-12 divisions or less) then there should be no problem getting extra guests in. If the group is a larger one...then there is a chance that they will have to wait till PIR is over.

But...let your guests know that there is a chance they won't get admitted..this HAS happened before, not often but it does happen.

They have to follow the OSHA Fire Safety Guidelines for # seated in the PIR hall.

Do the extra guests have to be on a list other than the 4 that are garaunteed a seat?
RWG...no only the 4 that are on the list are guaranteed admission. And that is the only guest list. The others have to wait till everyone is seated then go in. There are Fire regulations as to how many are allowed in the PIR hall so if the PIR group is a large one they may not all get in. Let the extra guests know that this is a possibility.
Thanks Jessica. Lets say 2 people on the list cant make it at the last minute. I wonder if my recruit is able to put down 2 alternatives that would take the 2 seats?

no no alternatives...they can revise the list a few weeks before PIR but still will have only 4 guaranteed admission. Try not to stress about the guest list. I've only read of a very few times that a guest did not get admitted.

There have been instances where a Sailor had several ( as many a a dozen) extra guests and they all got in.

Ok Great news. Off topic but do you know if I can send an 8x10 envelope to my son when I get his address. I want to send him some self addressed stamped envelopes to write home to me and some others. Or should I just fold a couple into a regular envelope each time I write him (which should be everyday). Thanks for your responses

Btw ..he just got there yesterday. I received the Im here phone call at 2:00 pm.

Congratulations on your Son's decision to join the Navy. I know you must be so proud and unsure of what to expect at the same time. Just keep writing him often and let him know that you support him. Keep those letters coming. He will be glad to hear from you.

He will need the encouragement through this difficult time in his life. But, he will be a better man for going through it.

About your question about the extra envelopes, please rest assured that your Son will have access to everything that he will need during his time away from home.If you would like, you can send extra postage stamp.

My husband will be concluding his stay in Great Lakes in 1.5 weeks.  We are all so very proud of him.

Good luck to both you and your Son on this new adventure..

Hi Texas8265. Sorry I didn't respond to your reply. I just now read this. I always try and respond back to everyone. Guess I have been a little too busy lately. I need to slow down Lol.

Congratulations to your Husband. I assume he has become a US Sailor now!

If you go to bootcamp great lakes web site that he sent in his first letter (sorry can't remember the exact web address) you can look to see how many divisions are in his PIR. I have seen as many as 12-13. The larger the group, the harder it is going to be to get extras in. My son's has nine divisions so I am keeping my fingers crossed.I have eight people hoping to attend. It's hard to say no to people who want to show their support.  I have heard that they rarely turn people away. Best of luck
