Hi everyone,

I searched the site and didn't find anything recent so I thought I'd pick everyone's brains.

I'm looking for ideas for a gift to bring my son for at the PIR ceremony?  I don't know if gifts are a thing, but it seems weird not to take one.

Ideas or what did you do for your new Sailor if you brought a gift to graduation?

Thanks in advance!

Could you send the actual link to a good g shock watch they have to many to choose from i know it cant have a gps.Do you have a favorite or one that people normally get?Thank you could you send it in a private message?

Thank you for your reply lemonelephant, I have seen that post.  I'm now looking for other points of view as well.

You are very welcome.

I update that to include other ideas if someone posts something I have not included that would be of interest to others.

As a PIR/birthday gift we gave our Sailor a personalized Navy ring (birthstone, name, rating, etc.). She loved it. Downside is that the long lead time meant that the ring order had to be placed as soon as we received her PIR date. You have to have 100% confidence in your Recruit's ability to graduate on time. Failure is not an option.

Thanks CryptoDad, I know he wants one of those so it's on the short list. I appreciate the tip!

If you include the rating, wait until after "A" School. Some Sailors will end up with a different rating than the one they originally signed a contract for for various reasons.

Or not.

PIR dates can change.

Recruits can be sent home.

Like I said, its a choice for those with total faith that things will go as planned. Don't lose sleep over it.

My sailor has since cross-rated. Still wears the ring.

Yes, most do end up with the rating that they shipped with, but some are DQ'd for various reasons or even fail their first "A" School and have to choose a new rating. It happens.

LOL CryptoDad, I think the ring might wait until a Christmas gift, just to be safe all the way around.  :)

Good point................

Our son graduated 7/31/15- this past Friday.  We gave him a waterproof watch. We went with that because he can't carry his phone now (Not for A school and I'm guessing on the job)  and he will regularly need to be on time.  He loved it! Said it was perfect and couldn't wait to show the guys in his DIV. He said they were all hoping they got a watch as a gift or were going to buy one at A school.  As we researched and read reviews in the end we went with the N4M recommended Casio G-SHOCK. The sailors who had reviewed the Casio said they beat up watches while on the job and the G-Shock keeps running. That is one reason we didn't go with dress watches that actually say Navy on them.  Also because they are not water proof.
