OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Question about OCONUS assignments for lower enlisted with dependents
Quick question to those of you with knowledge of the situation. When I was in the Army, everyone's dependents were basically automatically command sponsored if they were OCONUS (E-1 all the way to O-10). However, I've read that the Navy will only automatically command sponsor the families of E-4's and above (Barring medical or criminal issues). Based on that, I have two questions.
1) I can't imagine they would, but will the Navy give unaccompanied OCONUS orders to a sailor with dependents? I'm talking in practice, I know they're technically allowed to.
2) How common is it for E-3's with dependents to get OCONUS assignments with a waiver for command sponsorship?

1. If there is no single sailor with the proper NEC/rate to fill the billet, they certainly will send whoever they have who is up for orders, even if they have dependents. Not overly common but it happens often enough to be a thing to know about.
2. Pretty much never. They do not give the waiver for command sponsorship WITH the orders. It is not allowed per Navy policy. What usually happens is the sailor checks into the new command and requests the command sponsorship waiver from there. For Japan and Italy, the answer the last few years has been a definite no until the sailor advances to E-4 and extends their tour. I have seen a waiver approved for Guam, and for Gitmo. Cheaper places to live and US territories may have something to do with that.
