Hi,

My daughter doesn't leave til March 8th for BC, but I am trying to get all the info I can about the PIR.

At the RTC site it states.. "Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children 12 years old and younger do not count against the four-guest maximum."  We have 6 children, the oldest being the one going into the Navy, does this mean I need a pass for my husband, myself and our 14, but that our 12, 10, 7 and 4 yo can go also?  I guess I am a little confused because elsewhere it states only 4 people are allowed to attend.  Anyone have more info on this?
Thank you,
Jenn

My SR graduates 2/4/11 , we also have 2 other children 11 and 12 years old.  We received a letter about 2 weeks after her arrival at Basic that stated that any child under 13 would not need a pass but everyone even the children would need ID. I just took my kids to the DMV and had a photo ID made . That way we wouldn't be traveling with their birth cert. Ect.  I hope this has helped.
Sorry I forgot to mention that I do believe all sieblings can go. Only the ones over 13 have to count as part of the 4.

Charity,

Thank you!  My daughter that is going into the Navy, is named Charity! :)  When I saw your name, I thought she was replying to me! LOL

We have a problem as my parents also would like to go.. but we'll be using up 3 passes.. not sure if they should go and chance having one in the "waiting area" to see if they can get in?  Anyone have experience with that?  Are there usually seats open for those to go in, if they are waiting?

Thank you,

Jenn

Wow, you don't hear that name very often. That's kinda weird isn't it? Lol. I really think it depends on how many DIV are graduating that day. For instance our Grad date their is only 6 DIV graduating. Then I saw another grad day having 14 DIV. So if it's a small group I would think there would be plenty of room in the hanger for your parents as well. You may not know till she gets in and situated. Good luck, to SR Charity.  And you too.
a good group for you to join to connect with March DEPers and to get good info is    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/leavinforbootcampinmarch
Thank you!

I just got my son's first letter which gives the info that I've been waiting for. Like you, I'm confused too. The letter says no more than 4 people can attend. When I checked the RTC site it says not to call for additional seats which makes perfect sense because they'd be answering phones all day. lol Well, I've got 3 girls that want to go (ages 21, 15, and 13) and see their brother graduate in March 2011. But the info from the family guide says as follows:

Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children 12 years old and younger do not count against the four-guest maximum. The graduating recruit is responsible for identifying those individuals to be placed on the access list. Please coordinate with your recruit via letters regarding who will be on the access list. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed.  PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS.  All visitors must have valid photo identification. This requirement includes children (school ID, Social Security card or copy of birth certificate). Please be aware that security may deny base admission to guests NOT on the access list if they are not accompanied by a guest who is on the access list.

So, how can I go about getting all 3 girls in? Or is there no way and one of them will have to wait in the visitor center to see if there is room, and then there's no guarantee that she'll be able to sit with us (or will she?). The girls all have state id, or school id, I've got their social security card as well and can make copies of their birth certificates as I've got the originals) so I'm all set on that. Just now have to figure out how to get all 5 of us in there.

On a side note, I'm down in Texas and the news channels are horrible on reporting the weather up in the Chicago area. That is other than saying how cold or warm it is. What about snow during March? Is it typically bad up there? Or so so? We'll probably be driving up because I've never been able to find airfare for 6 (now 5) for less than what we can drive, and we go to the San Francisco Bay Area to visit my family and North Carolina/East Coast to visit my husband's family. And I've got to make sure that the van would be prepared for it.

I guess the best thing to do is in  your next letter, to your SR, have them double check that info.  From my understanding, anyone older than 12 needs a pass, all others are still ok to go, but don't need a pass.

Jenn
