My fiancé left for boot camp last week. And I've read a few different things about the paper works that needs to be filed once we do get married and the whole process. But since he's not around right now I can't have him ask these questions. We were planning on getting married when he was done with A school which would be end of May or early June. But would it be easier to just have a civil ceremony when he gets back from boot camp so we can get a jump on all the paper work?? And once we are married can I get everything done while he's in A school so he can focus on that?

Totally up to you and him how you want to do it, obviously, but you do get more pay/benefits if you're married. We eloped because we thought he was getting his job a year before he did, and then ended up having our ceremony/wedding a year later. It was kind of weird/abnormal way of doing it but it made sense for our situation. Maybe you can do that after he's done with boot camp and then plan the wedding like we did. :) congrats!

Thank you!

Okay, he is told not to marry PIR weekend, and signs a paper saying he will obey the liberty regulations.

Many couples do choose to have a civil ceremony during A school, so you are in the system as his spouse.  He will not be coming home after boot camp unless he hits the holiday stand down.  If he does, marry then.  If he does not, you would need to travel to him.  The main reason for this is so you would be included as a dependent on his orders.  If you wait until after A school, he will have unaccompanied orders.  You would need to pay for your own move to where he is stationed.  If that is overseas, you would not be able to join him in most cases.

As for "getting everything done".... he would be your sponsor, and he has to do the paperwork which enrolls you in DEERS, signs you up for TRicare, initializes your ID card, and begins BAH.  You cannot do that, even with a POA.  It doesn't take much time, just one appointment.  Once you have a POA, you can do things such as getting your ID card, arranging the PCS move.
