Hello! My husband is graduating February 18, 2011.  My flight coming into O'hare lands at 7:11 AM.  I know I am cutting it close but will I be able to make it to Great Lakes on time? Is there a set time I have to be there or can I go through as long as I am there before 9 AM? Also, does anyone know how long the drive is from O'hare airport to Great Lakes?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Here is the schedule:

0630: RTC Main Gate opens to visitors.

0700: The drill hall is open.

0845: Guests must be seated.

0900: Graduation commences.

0920: Divisions arrive at drill hall

1030: Ceremony concludes with Liberty Call.

2100: Liberty expires for recruits.

What if your flight is delayed due to weather conditions? It takes at least 45 minutes to 1 hour to get your luggage, do the paper work for the rental car. By that time, it'll be 8:00 to 8:11 am. You have to park and get seated. You may hit traffic. Personally, I would change the flight. Even if you arrange for a limo to pick you up at the airport or take a taxi, you still may not make it because you will then have to walk from the gate to the hall.  It'll be interesting to hear what the other moms have to say.

I agree with BunkerQueenBee and Lady Hamilton, change to an earlier flight if possible.    When my Sailor had his PIR in 2008, we left our hotel room, which was about 15-20 min. from base, at about 6:40 and got to our seats in the Drill Hall at 8:41. They were really rushing people through the check points at that pooint. I don't think traffic to the RTC or the getting through check points once on the RTC has gotten any faster over the last couple of years.

Thanks for the advice.
My daughter PIR in September we flew a day early to to find our way.  Traffic was very heavy that morning at the gates.  I would change flight times.
