OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Is there anyone out there that has anyone on the Ramage? My son has had 3 long deployments and this one is distrubing me more than any.  He volunteered to return to sea 11 months early.  He has two young children who are with the mom and step father.  He is an awesome as he having legal joint custody has them each and every day heis off.  They are ages 10 and 7 a girl and a boy.

I am afraid for him this time and can not sleep and cry all of the time. My husband is not knowing what to do and I am feeling that no one understands. He says he is safer than we are and that their is nothing to worry about yet I keep remembering the cole.

I pray and I watch Fox news I write to him, send things and send emails even though it does not seem like he gets them.

I feel so alone.

QUIT WATCHING THE TV that is the first thing you need to do. Then go to advice form and see what was posted on kids going to syria lady hamilton shows it better than I can tell you.  But your son is safe.  I can say this cause my son is around the canal from him.  I have done 8 deployments he is safe

News media gets so much wrong about the Navy, you're better off not watching it too much.  Try to limit your media exposure for your peace of mind. Non-military folks just don't get it.

My husband did Desert Shield in the Persian Gulf on the Dubuque, it is nerve wracking for us indeed.  But since the Cole, every ship has more security, more eyes on the ocean.  Indeed, sailors at sea are quite safe, safer than any other service in my opinion.  You can always be mom-worried, but try to breathe, keep things in perspective.

As for the emails, it is not unusual for the ship to shut that off when things are going on, or potentially going on.  No leaks that way.  Don't worry, more of a precaution than anything else.

Have you gotten in touch with the ombudsman?  The Facebook page?  Maybe they'd be good support for you.

There's a group on here, but it doesn't seem very active just now.

Join USS RAMAGE (DDG 61) FAMILIES and/or Destroyer Moms (DDG). What is your Sailor's rating (job/specialty)? There may be a group for that as well.
