My daughter leaves June 18th and reality is starting to hit her that she will be leaving in a little over 5 months.
She goes from excited, to nervous to angry.
She is excited and wants to tell everyone what she is doing after high school.
She is nervous about being away from home for the first time (this being her first big adult decision) its the fear of the unknown.
She gets angry that she will be away from home.
My husband and I try to encourage her to talk to her mentor and find solace in the other people going through the same thing. We encourage her to make it her own experience and enjoy it.
We remind he that no matter what her choice she should be proud and any decision about life after high school includes moving away from home.
I don't want to argue with her about these things but I don't want my husband and I to be made the bad guy when this is the normal progression of her life.
She is going through perfectly normal emotions. Some do that.
BTW, she is currently a future Sailor, not an SR. She is not officially a recruit until she swears in prior to shipping to the RTC.
My daughter was told by her mentor (formerly her recruiter) to identify herself as SR.
Some (perhaps most) recruiters permit that so that the future Sailor can get used to that term, but she is not officially a Seaman Recruit until she swears in on the way to the RTC. It is on that day that she is then Enlisted in the Navy and will begin being paid.
If you look at the DEP START guide, "Future Sailor" appears on the cover and throughout the book.
"SR" refers to a specific Navy rate at a pay grade of E-1. No pay. no rate, no SR.
Has she joined Navydep.com? She can meet up with other FS leaving in and around her ship out date. Alot of great support and information on that web site. I highly recommend it! Your daugher will be shipping out almost a month before mine. Mine leaves July 8th. Has she started to work out, and work on her run times? She needs 1.5 in under 15 mins. Good luck!
She is a future Sailor until she swears in before she ships to the RTC, then she is a recruit. She will be a Sailor when she passes Battle Stations-21 (BST) in the last week before PIR.
Sherrie, I left info on your My Page.
