So, how did it go? I just read this...My son went to boot camp this week, too. They probably are together. :-)
Hi! Yes, that is very normanl! :) LOL My son went to bc last Aug. and graduated in Oct. and it was so hard for me. We went to his swearing in and then to the airport with him when he was leaving for bc. He said I could go to the airport as long as I promised not to cry! What? Is he serious?!!! Well, I promised and I kept my promise! Once We were in the car after he left I lost it though! BC is hard, I survived by being on N4M's and I actually have a great friend from Chicago now because of this site! We met at graduation in person! It was really cool! We still keep in contact and help each other. My son has gone through A-school and is now out on his ship. It is nice to be able to have contact with him now, unlike bc. There are lots of emotions you will go through (it's a total roller coaster ride!) but just keep your eye on the prize and the day you get to go to graduationa and see your SAILOR! It is amazing! I suggest you go to Sarge's Meet and Greet too! Also, I suggest keeping a journal while he is gone! When you get your letter with his address and PIR date that really helps because even if you don't hear from him much you can write and send him encouraging letters! Make sure your letters are upbeat and positive and really encouraging! I wrote my son everyday! I hope this helps some. Oh, and it is OK to cry! And you might find that others don't really understand! The mom's on N4M's do though so get on here a lot! I was on everyday multiple times. Good luck to you and your son!
Hi Reality! Yes! Very normal so don't beat yourself up. Our son is at Great Lakes freezing his little touche off right now. He's been able to call us three times and is doing great! Just know you've raised a good kid - one valiant enough to be called a US Sailor! We miss Kevin so much but are so proud of him - we know he's going to do great things! The crying, for my husband and I stopped about the first week he left and by the time we got our first phone call (about 2 weeks) - we were able to talk without getting choked up :) Hang in there Navy Mom!
Hello jenny0665! My son is not leaving for bc until September. He knows I am going to cry. That is who I am! I cry a little every day because I am so proud and he is growing into a fine young man. Oh, and also I miss my little boy! I am really glad that everyone here at N4M offers knowledge, wisdom and support!
My son left on January 29, I know how you are feeling as I can not stop crying either. It gets a little better every day and I will feel so much better when I get his first letter and that 3 week phone call. The one thing I have been doing that has helped is I am writing a continuous letter that I add to everyday. It helps because I feel I am talking to him everyday.
Hi, my son left for boot camp yesterday and I feel the same way! I find myself just randomly crying when I start thinking of him during the day. I was fine when he was swearing in, then on the drive home it hit me. We got his "I arrived" phone call at 9:15 last night and I couldn't even sleep last night just thinking of him. Good luck to you and your future sailor. I am so glad I found this site.
My son left Feb 5th and I find that everything I see or do reminds me of him and BOOM the tears they come. I just want my first letter from him so I know he is fine.
Yes!!! When my son left January 29th I did not cry because I didn't want him to feel bad for leaving. I'm happy he wants to better his life.
I remember when my son left for boot camp. Talk about emotional. Im Not sure if your interested but I have started my NAVY BOOT CAMP journal pages and they are a great way to memorialize your SR's journey in boot camp. I went back and filled them out and it was quite therapeutic. At any rate I hope you are doing well with your son being gone
