Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi. I am new to Navy for Moms. My son met with a recruiter in February. He filled out info to have the recruiter check his high school transcripts, etc. the recruiter said he would get back in touch. A month later my son calls him. The recruiter tells him that they are waiting on three people to sign off on his paperwork before he can schedule his MEPS appointment. It has been another two weeks and no word. Is this normal? How long does it normally take for your recruiter to get back with you?

Was there something that your son needed to get a waiver on before he can go to MEPS?  That can take a while sometimes.

Hi. Yes, my son took ADHD meds for one year. It was two years ago, but they said it would have to be approved. Thanks for your reply.

That would explain the delay.  He needs to keep checking every couple of weeks.

:o) Know that the Navy is getting pretty particular and waivers are being denied for some things--especially ADHD, so be prepared for him to find a Plan B

On the positive side, at least the recruiter is taking the correct steps to get your son in and did not tell your son to withhold that information.  We hear about recruiters who tell the candidate not to put it down and also of recruits who come home after “the Moment of Truth” as a result.
