Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Is it standard practice to decorate your hotel room door for your Sailor?  I have seen several sites depicting them done but have not heard anyone talk about them here or on the Facebook pages.  I plan on making ribbons for the PIR graduation.  I assume I can get as creative as I like?  Thanks for your help!

I ask same question. Would love an answer .

Navygirl1999 you can decorate the door yourself, when we went the hotel decorated the door for us and it was a nice surprise to my Son. So anything you choose to do will be fine, speak to the people in the Lobby let them Know you have a Loved one Graduating.

Thought I would share a picture of our door decor - just in case others would like ideas.

Very nice Navygirl1999, they will enjoy and be very surprised. what a way to show the proudness! I encourage everyone to decorate the door, what a surprise to them!

Very nice!!! Congratulations!

Ladies either you or the Hotel will decorate but you have to let it be known you have a SR graduating. This is an awesome surprise for them I encourage all to do. their were many that wore the ribbons ect. that they made to the PIR it is very nice and supporting. also many made jewelry that was also very creative. so go away with it ladies and please post and share the awesome pics.

A word of caution though, if your sailor to be is going into special forces (pre-buds), intel, or one of the high security ratings (nuke is one), please consider carefully when putting their photos or first names on the decorations.  You can still do a wonderful warm greeting of pride without identifying them publicly.

Thank you Anti M for the word of caution, didn't realize that.

PERSEC, or personal security, is not mentioned as much as OPSEC, but is just as vital to personal and family security.  No need to hand over personal information on a platter.  The chances are slim a door decoration means much, but you never know.  Good practice for families to begin thinking of what and when to share about their sailors.
