My son left for bootcamp 7/21/15. I was so proud but, it was bittersweet. He is my oldest and we are very close. I have never seen him want something so bad. My husband and I watch this kid work his butt off for 9 months straight. He was suppose to leave in May but, finally got the contract he'd been working so hard for. Proud doesn't even explain how we felt when he came home and said I finally did it. My husband, daughter and I were there to watch him be sworn in, then I took my mom to her appointment at UC Davis cancer center... She is in remission!!!! Thank you God "what an awesome day". I text my son right away so he had that great news getting to boot camp. Friday morning at 5am I received a call from a man at bootcamp. My heart sank, he only needed to know about my son being allergic to penicillin. Today my husband left for a 2 week business trip. I finally felt like my whole world has changed. My husband has kept me from being sad to being proud. Now I sit her missing my son more then ever. Tears just roll down my face every time I see his car or go into his room. I know I have so much to be thankful for. But, sometimes it hard to remember that when you miss someone So much. I just needed to vent. Thank you navy moms for all the support.

It has been a rough week for you; so many different variables! You sound like such a strong and selfless woman. :) sometimes it takes strength to grieve even when it's temporary. My special recruit is in the same spot, I think. P-days now...looking forward to that box at some point! Luckily, we get to keep looking forward. :)
Thank you so much.... And yes I can't wait to get the box because that means I'm closer to getting his letter.

Hello,

My son left for boot camp on 7/23.  I cried so much the first two days .It's so overwhelming seeing my son leave without us with him. I spend a lot of time reading and watching  the u tub videos  they  have on this site.  It makes me feel better knowing more of what my son is going through.  I Also know people who where/ are in the military and ask them a lot of questions. My first question was do you feel the same as we do when you leave. Answer she gave me was , No because we are the ones going away .Not to say we are not upset / home sick it's  Just put in the back of your mind. She said when you walk off the bus you have so much going through your mind you really don't think about home .You want to make sure you listen and follow directions. She goes on saying your scared ,you break down but that's part of it.The first two weeks are hard but as time passes it gets a little easier.    After talking to her I felt better knowing someone who went through it.  Great news about your mom

I know exactly how you feel. We are almost in the exact same boat (literally) My son left the 15th and I cried a week straight. Now I cry about once a day and it hits me at random. My husband also works out of town and is leaving tomorrow until mid September so I will also be alone the remainder time. My Husband is also my rock. Without him and my son, I don't know how I am going to do. I do have 3 girls to keep me busy, but it's a struggle without my boy and now hubby. I just keep saying "This too shall pass".

Thanks for sharing, we do have a lot in common!! Hang in there!

my son and i are very close too. his father and i are divorced so he has been the "man of the house" for so long..i miss him like crazy. and my other son who is 16 has been on a cross country road trip with his aunt and uncle all summer long .. now that both are gone i am lost. i started working a second job to keep my mind occupied.

I now don't feel so weird lol ..I have my son's shirt on my pillow and refuse to wash it until I see him again ..prayers to all of you!!
Thank you to everyone for your stories. It helps so much. Today has been better. But, I'm at work. All I keep thinking about is getting the box. : )

I will not be washing my sons shirt either. It will go in his keepsake box along with a photo of him the day he left. I cherish every memory of my boy. He is truly my heart and best friend.

I can relate. I know our boys are turning to men. But, mine will always be my baby. Plain and simple.
Thank you.. Everything is going to be okay.
Hi~ my boy left the 21st as well. I have a hole in my heart feeling and the tears just well up and my throat gets tight and I can't talk. I guess I'm finding solace in this chat because nobody else understands. That is my baby boy. God bless your heart, sweetie. We are all here to listen and help one another. I hope you find peace. Know that I'm looking for it as well.
