ok...need some encouragement...my sailor just called in tears.  She has been doing great in school, but missed this last test by 1 question (72%).  Now she is back at phase 1 and has another test tomorrow.  She is so upset that she may mess this one up and not be allowed to leave for her approved Christmas leave next week.  Is that even a possibility?  I know the Navy can do anything, but should we be concerned that she may not get to come home for Christmas?

Unfortunately they can keep her. I am sorry she's having a hard time just be there for her. My son can't come home for Christmas he is stationed in corpus Christi Texas as a Navy Corpsman he is also one of the guards at the gate. Just encourage her let her know that everything happens for a reason some times its not what we hope for but everything will work out.

I'm sorry this is happening, so stressful for you both!

Even phase one sailors can come home for the stand down.  She is not on restriction, she's just back to wearing uniforms and having a stricter curfew.  Here's hoping she does well on her test so it won't be an issue.  Remember, if she doesn't get leave, that's one more sailor the staff has to deal with when they'd rather be home too. So stay positive!   I'm sure they provided extra study opportunities for her before the test.  Has she been on mandatory study?

Threatening to rescind leave is just another tool in the motivation box.  Seems harsh, but is very much a Navy reality, and preparation for the fleet where leave is dependent on the job being done.

Anti M, thank you...she is not on mandatory study. She got 100s on the previous tests.  I think that is what made this such a shock.  They didn't provide any extra study before today's test.  She is actually taking it right now...ugh!

I was very positive with her last night, and then cried myself to sleep.  I told her I would try to make the drive out there if she isn't able to come home though.  I just wish it wasn't so close to Christmas, so we could plan.  I also don't want to lose money on the plane ticket she bought.  Oh well...it is what it is...military life :/

Thank you for responding...I am glad I have this site to turn to...

If her leave is cancelled, you may be able to negotiate with the airlines... save the ticket for later.  But don't cross that bridge until you need to!

I was in ET school, ages ago... I had all 100s until I hit Synchros and Servos.  Hardest module ever for me.  I went to the study classes, even though it wasn't mandatory.  Some units are just harder than others.  I don't know which A school she is in, but I'm assuming she has just hit a rough patch.  It happens.

If you can't use the airline ticket, by all means contact the airlines. They tend to be willing to work with military personnel. For what it's worth, I posted something on the airlines Facebook page when my son had an issue, and they contacted me within the hour to offer to help. They all claim to support the military. Hold them to it.

This is so difficult.  Which A school? c

Could just be a few silly mistakes and she will ace repeat test.  Hang in there.

What A school is she in?

Something to understand is yes the Navy can do anything...leave is a privilege not a right, technically the Navy does not have to allow them to take leave..but when they are in school, they normally encourage the students to take leave as the staff at the schools want to take leave.

With this situation, I would not worry about it unless she got into trouble, that is normally the only way the "A" Schools cancel Sailors leaves.  She needs to relax

Actually leave is a right not a privilege you EARN! 2.5 days a month

Yes, but taking leave is a privilege the command can deny at certain times.

Thank you Anti M :)

Again no taking leave is a right yes it can be denied due to operational commitments like school or deployment. But not just because if leave is already approved only the CO can revoke the leave
