While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Sasebo doesn't really have stay away neighborhoods like the US does. Japan is wonderful and safe overall. Commuting would be the main issue. I was in Yokosuka while my husband was in Sasebo, long ago, so he just lived on the ship.
OHA will cover the rent up to a certain amount, with enough for utilities. COLA makes up the difference in dollar to yen cost of living. The Housing Office has a list of approved house rental agencies. Renting in Japan is very different than in the US, and individual landlords usually go through an agent who handles the property.

You can look at the OHA calculator to see what your sailor is eligible for. The site says it is unsafe, but just hit advanced, it is actually fine, just the certs are out of date (like most.mil sites).
https://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/ohaCalc.cfmIn order to rent offbase, your sailor MUST go through a class held by the Housing Office which explains renting on the economy, how Japanese leases work, and which agencies are approved. Unlike the US, you cannot pick something out and out down a deposit online before you get there.
