Hi I'm new so I hope this is ok to ask here.
My husband leaves for bootcamp in September and I guess is still going through the application process for security clearance. This afternoon he received a phone call from a collection agency for a bill we were not even aware existed. We pulled his credit report and found he also has a medical bill we thought was covered by his insurance which was sent to a collection agency. We never received anything from this agency.
My question is this: will the fact that he unknowingly omitted two delinquent accounts affect his ability to gain security clearance? And since he is now aware of these delinquencies is there any way to amend his application?

He needs to let the recruiter know ASAP...they count that as lieing on the application, not knowing about it is not an reason.

Recommend he make up a plan to pay off all of those and start making phone calls to them ASAP about these bills

I showed this to my husband, who has a lot of experience with clearances.

He said that your husband should go talk to his recruiter (like Angie said) as soon as possible.  He might be able to go in and modify his security application that he filled out online.  He should also put the information somewhere safe that you can find it, so that when the investigator talks to him at boot camp, he will be able to have you get it to him asap.  (Don't take it with him, he will have to send it back, then, when he meets with the investigator, have you get it to him again.  It's better for you to just hang on to it for him.)

He also needs to start doing what he can to pay these debts as soon as possible - before he leaves.  Then, when he sees the investigator - even if he isn't asked about it (the investigator who is starting the investigation might not have found these yet, but they will be found, so he needs to be upfront about it), he needs to tell him / her and volunteer the information, and be very upfront about it, about how you didn't know, etc.

Good luck!

Thank you both for responding. He has already contacted his recruiter and has contacted both companies concerning payment plans. He is going to try to correct the application if they will let him. We are carefully documenting every step he takes.

Thank you again for your help.
