sjtina...please forgive my ignorance but what are battlestations and why is the time they occur a secret?

judge, I can answer you about Battle Stations.  It is the final test that they must pass to earn the right to be a Sailor.  You can actually watch a video about it on the RTC website.  At GL they has a replica of an actual Battle Ship (indoors and extremely life like) that the SR's must go on and stay for 12 hours doing everything they have been taught to do so far.  It includes regular mundane chores to fighting fires to a possible explosion on board the ship.  It is quite involved.  Why the time is kept under wraps I do not know.  But I am sure sjtina will be able to tell us.  Hope that is helpful.

Thanks GIMom...Am I the only one who didn't know that?

GImom is right about BS. It is a final test that leads to the "I'm a Sailor Call" that you do not want to miss from your recruit. At one time they were allowed to post the dates when they knew, but for some reason(I will find out why) they were asked to stop. The boys are told not to talk about it. You can find the video on You Tube. CNN did a story on it. The guys actually look forward to it.

Ok I have an answer. lol

Think of it as routine to not post dates of movement for our guys. As we already know from OPSEC there should never mention of exact dates. Best to discuss that in a private message. I know we are given the date of PIR, but its not part of training.

No phone call yet! I am afraid he will call tomorrow because it is the only day I will be out of town...If I come back to a massage on the machine I am going to cry....I hope I dont miss it.

It has been kind of quiet today.  I hope everyone is doing ok.  I know we are all missing our guys.  I saw "Act of Valor" on Friday and found it to be very honorable.  I know that my son is really wanting to see it and was wondering if we would be able to get it in the week end of PIR.  I am so looking forward to see him.  Let's keep each other posted on Meet and Greets.  I haven't made a decision yet on where I will go.  Keep in touch all!

Sancy

omama..did you get a call yet?

Sancy...I want to see that movie as well. Just haven't  made it there yet and was thinking the same thing as I know my son is wanting to see it too. As far as the meet and greet.. I say we just pick one and all go to the same one?

I'm not a mom of someone in Ship 04/Div 809, I'm a girlfriend.  I hope I'm not intruding but this is the most relevant, helpful discussion I've found in a week of searching this site.  I'm really grateful to everyone for the posts about what your loved ones have written in letters- my boyfriend tends to sugarcoat everything and I didn't have a real idea of what was going on until reading through.  So thank you from someone who misses her recruit in a different capacity!

LaurenCT, I am sure all of us remember back to the girlfriend stage and how hard it is to be apart.  Do you know of the FB page US Navy Recruit Training Command?  There is very good info there and alot of girlfriends of SR's post there.

GIMom- Thanks for the info.  I wasn't familiar with that facebook page (who knew there were so many people in the same boat?) so thanks for recommending it!

You are very welcome :)  All the best to you and  your SR !
