I got my first call today!!!!!!!  It was SO good to hear his voice!!!!!  He said it is hard but doing good.  He also said NOT TO send newspaper articles or magazine articles.  My daughter sent some little pictures and he said that was ok but only LETTERS are allowed.  They get in trouble.  Anyway...I can't wait till PIR.  Let me know if anyone else got their call!!!

Sancy

YES !! Me TOO !!    We talked for 39 minutes ! :) :)  He sounded WONDERFUL.  He is getting over a cold.  Yes, my son too said only send letters.  They have 6 hours of "free" time on Sunday but that includes breakfast and lunch and anything thing they need to do, like shining their boots or ironing, etc.  So they do not have alot of time to just write.  Food is pretty good, cafeteria style and they can pick what they want.  I think I could float to GL on the cloud I am on.  ( I know, I'm a goof.  But I can't help it) :)

I am still floating as well GIMom!!!  Mine was sick too.  He said most everyone had been but they were getting better now.

Great my son is probably in trouble all the time, I think he has gotten pictures in all his letters, at least they were printed on regular letter paper. I just hope we havent been the cause of punishments:(

omama I do not think pictures would get him in trouble. Space is limited since they are given a small box to keep personal items in. It doesn't hold much. My son asked me to sneek a stick of gum into his letter. I guess he never got caught, he said others were doing it too. Boys will be boys. lol

I did find out in his letter today he gets punished for some types of pictures.with 70 push ups etc...said do not send magazines or news papers and write / type the current events so he wont have do more pushups! :)

I am so jealous , I want a call, how is life going for your SR's in the 809 division? do they find it hard, or do they seem to think it is getting better, or they are just getting better at living the Navy way?

But I am also really happy for all of you!! And greatful for the news you share, feels like I know a little more about how hes doing. thanks everyone!!

omama, I am really sorry to hear you haven't gotten a call yet.  Perhaps today.  I do not know how many can call at once and maybe more are scheduled to call today.  My son said things are going good now.  It was slow moving at first because they were like on hold in the beginning as new guys joined their Div. every day for the first few days.  He didn't say he found anything particularly hard, just busy learning the Navy way of life.  He didn't mention about anyone being in trouble.  But they were doing "pretty good" as a Div.  Crossing my fingers you get a call today.

not yet but letters are good!!

He sounded really good.  He called at 5:03 and we talked for 32 minutes!  Other than missing home, he certainly did not sound discouraged.  He did say it was harder than he thought it would be.  Not Harder phisically, but just 3-4 hours sleep each night.  Taps at 9 and then they iron and get ready for the next day which starts by getting up at 3:30.  He mentioned a couple that had been sent home, some that made him laugh, some that got in trouble alot.  He is definetly not bored.  They got their first flag for academics.  That's good!!!  Of all the things that I never thought that he would say in his lifetime is that he is tired of all of the farting.  He said it is constant!!  That made me laugh.  He said the food is plenty and I could tell he was making friends quickly.  He sounded older than when he left.  I really can't wait to see him.  Keep me posted on yours!

Sancy

thought the farting part was funny! Must be the food:)
