I got a letter today too!

He told me when Battle Stations is, and the original date I gave diannep is wrong :/ I will send a pm...

Here is what all he said:

Thursday night they gave them a 30-minute window specifically to write letters.  He said he was partners with EOD mom's son while working out.  They had to carry each other on their backs and walk 50 yards and then bust out a few squats, and it was pretty fun.  He's been drinking coffee every morning to try to wake up and found out it's all decaf. Thinks it's another mind game. He can't wait to sleep 8 full hours. They earned another flag for passing zone inspection, and they are finally doing real training.  Up to this point it seems like they were just training them to be trainable. Now that they are actually doing things the time goes by way faster. They can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. They did live fire on Friday and it was so much fun!! Thinks he may have qualified for sharp shooter.

His rack mate (former fireman) got a package from his fire/paramedic team back home. They stuffed it with pink tissue paper and m&m's, chips, a Snickers bar, and more goodies.  The RDC let him keep some of the candy. He said next week (which is this week) they learn how to firefight and get gassed.

He said another guy was taking pics of them while at the pool, shirtless.  He told me exactly where he was standing in case it's posted on fb!

He's afraid his blankets may have bedbugs.  Gross!

On Saturday the RDC "made him" eat one of his bunkmate's kit kat bars in from of him and the whole division.  "It was super good."  They are all getting super stoked about graduation and pre-dive school. Starting to get fairly good at marching. "I must say I look pretty freakin good in those uniforms (dress blues, whites). I was able to iron my shirts and sew a button on my trousers today.  I feel like such a man."

I love that he really sounds like he's having fun now!

.....and you thought the mailbox was only to hold bills and junkmail?  You never realized it would be the only lifeline to your baby, did you? Congratulations on the letter!  Did you ever think that Thursday would be a more favorite day than Friday?

My son was smiling in his "hero shot" and the photographer even touched up the stress zit on his forehead.  I have it sitting here in my office.  Ohhhhh, he is one handsome hunk!

My son gained weight while at boot camp.  He said they all ate as much as they could because they never knew when there would be a surprise PT.

When your SR gets his phone back be sure to ask him what it felt like.  My son said they all commented that they each had a moment of information overload.

Ladies, please make sure you send your SR world events, political events, as well as sports scores and local news.  They crave it!  Don't consider anything bad news.  It's simply information from the outside world. Our sons and daughters are headed into some of the areas we read about in the news.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  I'm headed to the beach for a little R&R.

I just went back through the discussion and found I had not answered some questions.  I learned on this site that if you want the whole group to see your comment you have to go to the top of the page.  If you only want to comment on what someone else has written, you have to go to the bottom of the page.  So, I'm sorry I missed some questions.

PIR.  It was pleasant in the Hall.  It was also pleasant (60 degrees) outside the day of PIR. I wore a pant suit with a long sleeve blouse and was very comfortable.  My husband and older son wore nice pants and sportcoats with ties.  I cannot reiterate enough how important it is to dress comfortably and nice.  Your Sailor is in his finest dress blues and looks dashing.  You want to compliment his outfit. I saw everything from t-shirts and ratty blue jeans to "clubbing" clothes.  I wish I had a recording of the comments from my 28 year old single son.

What NOT to bring - your 28 year old good-looking son.  One girl in clubbing clothes about wore a hole in the walkway in front of him!

I wish I had brought bottled water. They sell it there, but I still wish I had brought my own.

Make sure you have binoculars!  It's fun to watch your Sailor's facial expression - or lack thereof.

Don't bring anything that may slip between the cracks in the bleachers.  One man lost a camera.  The bleachers allow for plenty of leg room.

I put my pocketbook down under my feet.  The lady next to me spilled her drink and failed to tell me until after it had soaked my bag and she asked if I had a paper towel.  Right, I carry a roll wherever I go!

When "liberty" was announced, some people are in more of a hurry than they need to be.  One LARGE lady (in stilettos, tube top and miniskirt) literally linebacker blocked me into my daughter to get me out of her way.  If you have older people or young children with you, just be aware.

As I re-read this, it sounds as if I didn't have a good time.  I had a blast!  It's just fun being a 55 year old mother with multiple life experiences under her belt.

Thanks Bob's mom! I had to stop by for tidbits, (I'm becoming a professional Tidbit Stalker!) Our PIR is so lucky you adopted us! And...Yay! I'm a member of the 55 club too! Like fine wine....we get better with age. (I just haven't quite been able to figure out, what part, exactly, has gotten better!

Love it!!!!

ALL OF IT, CB, all of it....as my 6 yr old daughter would say....duh....

and since I'vebeen stalking over there at div 925, I WON'T say get your own tidbits. Nope, no siree, don't want to get cut off from any morsels I can glean.

LOL! Well there certainly is a LOT MORE of it! That's for sure! LOL!
Instead of starting a story with "many years ago..."
I start them with "75 pounds ago..." LOL!!!

I'm with ya, girlfriend!

Yeah, I pretty much just received the same info in my letter dated 4/18.  He said at first they thought it was food poisoning, but later people were getting sick left and right.  About 1/4 of the div was sick or don't feel good like they're about to be sick.  They've been doing more in depth cleaning and sanitizing, and last Wednesday all the plans were canceled, and the day had sort of turned into a holiday routine.  He said two doctors were there from preventative medicine interviewing all the sick guys trying to get to the bottom of it.  This is tough to hear!  So close to the end!

So sorry to hear this. My son in 925 said most have them have not felt well the whole time either, but this sounds a bit more serious. I sure hope they recover fast. It's hard enough to go through boot camp, but this really makes it tough. Get Well 811!

I received a letter from my son telling about the same as the others. He had also contracted pink eye. He had not come down with the stomach illness. He added a quick note on Thursday evening stating that everyone was getting better!

has anyone had an update to see if the boys are over the stomach flu?
