We got a very short letter today written on Sunday August 21.  It said that we shouldn't write after 8.27 because the SRs wouldn't be there to receive the letters, the next scheduled call was the 31st, more testing this week, and that there was a possibility that we might have part of the weekend with our SR.

The most important thing to remember about PIR is to be flexible and not make a lot of plans; they may not want to do much.  Enjoy your visits and travel safe!

PIR LAST MINUTE TIPS:
Make sure everyone has ID's (birth certs for kids without ID's)
Bring at least 2 copies of the gate/parking pass - whether you plan on taking a shuttle to PIR or not, you'll need it to return your sailor back to base in the evening.
Binoculars - trust me on this!
Tide Stick Pen and a lint brush
Tissue - self explanatory!
Camera - and charger (or film)
Cell phone - and charger
Umbrella-just in case
GPS, reservation numbers, maps you may have printed
Husband, kids, etc (easy to forget those!)
An open mind to how your weekend will transpire - remember, they will be tired, they will be hungry and they just want hugs!
Bring your Sailors cell, laptop, ipod and all chargers to use in the room to catch up and if they are G&G you can give pass them on.
A comfy pair of clothes for your sailor to relax in while in your motel room
A sweater or jacket - it gets cold in the PIR hall
Whatever cool ribbon or name tag you may have made for your Meet & Greet
If you have room in your bag…a towel for your Sailor to sit on if you do go out and sightsee.

Best advice: Have fun and whatever you do, do NOT bring your sailor back to the base late. No one will forgive you for a long, long time! (If someone is late, they lose liberty the next day - and their whole division loses a couple of hours!!! NOT COOL)

My SR said he will need to stay in GL for Dive Prep before heading to Panama City for A School.  They may have some duty until Dive Prep begins.  I will take any time I can get!  We are driving from PA so it will be about a 12 hour drive.  We will arrive on the 31st and let him call the shots.  We will need to leave on Monday, but will be flexible with whatever his schedule allows.  Cannot wait!  I have a feeling this will be the longest 5 days, 17 hours of my life :-)  Just going to keep busy with work & packing this weekend!  Thinking of you all, as well!

Any families evacuating in the path of the storm, who need a place to go before PIR. We are about 8 hours from Chicago, and although I never thought I would say so, are centrally located, and would be glad to have company.  Invite me to be your friend... not sure how its done. Even if you need a stop over next week...let us know.

You are in our thoughts!

Does anyone know officially what liberty will be for 819? I mean, are they for sure flying out on Friday or are they on hold in GL? I heard that 818 SRs are mainly on hold at GL. I haven't been in contact with my SR so I have no idea how long I can see him. If anyone has heard from their SR please contact me, thank you =)
Hi Lililady I got a letter today from my Sr and he said that will be probably till Saturday there in GL he is flying to Pensacola

LilLady, it depends on what A school they are going to.  My son is going for diver so he will stay at GL, he said in his last letter that he got his orders and he will be in GL till Nov 2nd.  If he passes diver prep he will go to Panama City.  I believe alot of the other jobs go to Pensacola for training.

Thank you both for replying! My SR is Rescue Swimmer and is suppose to go to PCola, FL for A school. I appreciate the information because I am so lost knowing what is going on since we have not been communicating! Thanks again!

Just can't believe PIR is this Thursday.  Our SRs PIR is at the top of the list.  We've waited 8 long weeks. The only time our SR's have grown more in 8 weeks was from conception to week 8 of life.  I'm so proud and I haven't even seen my SR yet!  In his last letter a week ago Thursday, my SR said that the next scheduled call was 31st.....and so it will be.  I can't wait to get that call!  Thank you all so much for all the support. Knowing that I was not alone and that I could learn and share what was happening to the SRs when I had so little information made the wait much easier. See you at the M & G!

I also cannot wait to see my SR thursday...... (he's my baby). Left 2 weeks after high school graduation, just 18 in the end of June. He is my third sailor...... I'm so proud of him !! It will be so great to give him a big hug. I havent gotten any letters in a while... i wonder if they will come while i am in GL. I arrive tomorrow midday and will pick up my daughter (Shes in A school in GL) and have dinner with her... then PIR Thursday. She will be at graduation as well. So if you see a mom with her Sailor next to her (short red hair) that will be us. MY oldest son left GL YESTERDAY.... he is now in VA for the next 2 months. I hoped he would still be there for his brothers PIR, but it didnt work out that way. See you all in 2 days !!! BRING TISSUES and something soft to sit on... the bleachers get very uncomfortable to sit on for a long time. This is my 3rd PIR in 52 weeks... and I'm learning more with each one (this is also my last PIR.)
I can't believe the LONG wait is over.  However, this past week has seemed longer than the entire length of boot camp!  My son will be staying in GL for Dive Prep and I hope we have a lot of time with him.  Staying at Spring Hill Suites and it will be wonderful to finally see all of you moms.  This has been a great thing to have a place to gain information and share feelings.  Thanks to you all!

Hi CBSmom i am in the same boat as you Do you have the latest email i didnt get it about BS schedule
