Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

The most important thing to remember about PIR is to be flexible and not make a lot of plans; they may not want to do much. Enjoy your visits and travel safe!
PIR LAST MINUTE TIPS:
Make sure everyone has ID's (birth certs for kids without ID's)
Bring at least 2 copies of the gate/parking pass - whether you plan on taking a shuttle to PIR or not, you'll need it to return your sailor back to base in the evening.
Binoculars - trust me on this!
Tide Stick Pen and a lint brush
Tissue - self explanatory!
Camera - and charger (or film)
Cell phone - and charger
Umbrella-just in case
GPS, reservation numbers, maps you may have printed
Husband, kids, etc (easy to forget those!)
An open mind to how your weekend will transpire - remember, they will be tired, they will be hungry and they just want hugs!
Bring your Sailors cell, laptop, ipod and all chargers to use in the room to catch up and if they are G&G you can give pass them on.
A comfy pair of clothes for your sailor to relax in while in your motel room
A sweater or jacket - it gets cold in the PIR hall
Whatever cool ribbon or name tag you may have made for your Meet & Greet
If you have room in your bag…a towel for your Sailor to sit on if you do go out and sightsee.
Best advice: Have fun and whatever you do, do NOT bring your sailor back to the base late. No one will forgive you for a long, long time! (If someone is late, they lose liberty the next day - and their whole division loses a couple of hours!!! NOT COOL)
Any families evacuating in the path of the storm, who need a place to go before PIR. We are about 8 hours from Chicago, and although I never thought I would say so, are centrally located, and would be glad to have company. Invite me to be your friend... not sure how its done. Even if you need a stop over next week...let us know.
You are in our thoughts!
LilLady, it depends on what A school they are going to. My son is going for diver so he will stay at GL, he said in his last letter that he got his orders and he will be in GL till Nov 2nd. If he passes diver prep he will go to Panama City. I believe alot of the other jobs go to Pensacola for training.
Just can't believe PIR is this Thursday. Our SRs PIR is at the top of the list. We've waited 8 long weeks. The only time our SR's have grown more in 8 weeks was from conception to week 8 of life. I'm so proud and I haven't even seen my SR yet! In his last letter a week ago Thursday, my SR said that the next scheduled call was 31st.....and so it will be. I can't wait to get that call! Thank you all so much for all the support. Knowing that I was not alone and that I could learn and share what was happening to the SRs when I had so little information made the wait much easier. See you at the M & G!
