Thanks, Winhawk for the prayers.  I got my son's letter today.  He said his shipmates are nice and the RDC's are tough but generally fair.  He printed it in the neatest handwriting I have ever seen from him.  Can't wait until PIR. We are going. We live in N. Alabama and it is a 10 hour drive so we are going to drive up. Now to book hotel rooms.  Where are you coming from?

Hope more moms show up on this thread now that the letters are getting delivered. I'm really excited!!

Deanna~so glad you got the letter:) We are coming from the Kansas City area.We found flights that were $59 each way so thought that was awesome. We booked our room at the Navy Lodge for $65 a night. We got one with a kitchen. It is just 5 min from the base. I have been told to take a taxi from the lodge to the base on PIR day or the line of cars could take an hour or longer to get through. The taxi drops us off right at the gate. Our son's girlfriend will be coming with us. There should be 6 of us total so 2 may not get to see the ceremony. Our son is doing A school at Great Lakes so we will have the weekend with him. Thankfully his isn't grad and go.

Wow- that is great! I think I might check out airline prices with gas so high it might be better to try and fly. We can fly from Huntsville, AL or Nashville, TN. We may have 5 coming but we are not sure yet. My son would like to see his Grandparents but they would not be able to come to the ceremony. He is going to Nuke school in Goose Creek, SC and his recruiter told us he should have the weekend and fly out on Monday.  We were also told by his recruiter that since Nuke A-school (the first of 3, 6 month schools) is long, there is the possibly of taking leave when the school closes for Christmas so hopefully he can come home. He would then be able to see all the Grandparent then.

Aww, I hope he can come home for a visit. My son is doing A School in Great Lakes, then sub school in Groton CT.  We are flying Southwest from KC to Milwaukee. My daughter and her husband are flying from Denver to Milwaukee on SW also. My other daughter is in Tulsa and may drive here and fly with us. My son wants his girlfriend there as well so she will be flying with us. She is in HS as a senior and has joined the Navy and will leave for BC in July. She will be a medic. We will have 6 people and I hope we all get in to the drill hall. Our son is our baby and I miss him so much.

If there is room in the drill hall, your parents may be able to attend. My husband is ex-Navy and never went to his graduation. He offered to stand duty that day since his family wasn't there. I am hopeful our entire family will be allowed in. One never knows with the weather and cost with the holidays that which families won't be able to make it. My husband said "keep your phone with you all day on Sundays it will be the best day for them to call" I never realized how hard this would be.

Thanks for the info about extra guests. My father is retired Navy. He and my mom were at Great Lakes over 50 years ago.  She was in the Navy too!  My hubby is retired Army so we are well aware of how the Army does things but that is not always the Navy way.  I am learning a whole new set of acronyms and vocab.
I found there are Southwest tickets from Nashville to Chicago for $59. Is Milwaukee closer or just an easier airport to get around.  We would have to drive about a little over an hour to get to Nashville but it is an easy airport to get around.
My husband who has been to Midway several times said we will have to travel down Cicero "and you won't like it"he said. Plus it is 50 min from RTC. for another 15 min drive we chose MKE. Much better airport to get in and out of. It is all personal preference. $59 is a great deal.

We received the box on Thursday and just received the form today. Just found out the date we have been waiting for is Dec 2nd too! SO super excited just made my  day!!!!  I am sure you will get your letter soon! Monday was a holiday so that throws it off a day...Can anyone recommend a hotel?

Navy Lodge $65 a night which is 5 min from the base
Thank you!  I just booked it!!

Hi, Lydia! Great to see another mom on Ship 09/Div 013.  We got our form letter today with a short note from our son. He said his shipmates were really nice.  So they must be working well together. :)

I hope my son is one of the nice ones.  That makes me smile.
