While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I just got my letter! FYI - My son reported to GL late on Tuesday 3/6. I live in the Chicago area. His box came within 36 hours and the letter arrived today!

oh that's so good to hear! I hope Scootersmom is reading, I know she's had a long couple days! My son said the same as far as writing, but he said he looks at his GF's picture at night.....I remember the denitists and dental techs being super nice and kind. I needed a lot of dental work when I joined and they were very nice.....and of course the food was outstanding, they make the best homemade rolls! I guess next week will be there tough week but then they do some fun stuff like firefighting and firearms.....prayers for all of them for the week to come!!!

I know Scooter is probably going through a ton, but I try to see the silver lining in everything. The greatest men are molded when they are under the greatest pressure. If there is anyone that is completely being broken down and sculpted in the way the Navy wants them to be, Scooter is going to be that person. He is having to overcome obstacles that hardly any of these men and women are having to go through during the hardest 8 weeks of their lives.
Consider this a blessing, but still ask God for peace for Scooter during this time!!

Thank you so much GeorgiaGirlfriend and atimeforart. You guys are so sweet. Yes, it has been a long few days. Drove 1600 miles (round trip) to attend a funeral and then came home to letters that Scooter wrote during is "down" time from the wisdom teeth pulling. You know when they are not going 100 miles per hour and have time to think about home that is the hardest. I know by now he is back on top of his game. He kept trying to reassure me in his letters he was fine but you know how mommas worry. I am thinking this is Hell Week and today should be the last day. Is that what you guys got from your letters? He did tell me that the whole division calls him Scooter now...lol He also said there were a few days there was no mail run which I am sure was hard on all of them. He also said he is one of the youngest in their which surprised me because he graduated high school 2 years ago...although he did graduate at 17.
GeorgiaGirlfriend thank you for your uplifting words. I really do appreciate them. I know he is going to make it through this....he will not let himself quit. I cannot wait until 27 days from now!

From what I understood from the letters this is hell week and it should be over now. I can't wait to get letters next week. No phone call for me yet either. I am sure Jared is doing fine as well. Sounds to me like he is doing exactly what my dad told Scooter to do....follow the rules, pay attention to details and try not to call attention to yourself. We will both be proud mommas of Sailors on 27 Apr :)

That is surprising that he is the youngest, I guess I assumed they were all 18 or so....my son is 18, looks about like 15! He'll be 19 in A school. I'm guessing perhaps some of them tried out jobs or college after high school and didn't think it was for them....That's what I did....I turned 21 in bootcamp! I'm glad he's doing better....I'm thinking the backup on the mail happens on the weekends, perhaps even though the postal service delivers on Saturday, the mail room doesn't work? just guessing because I vaugly remember not getting mail on sat.....I think sometimes they get so busy too, they don't have time to hand it out.....Just handing out laundry everynight is a chore, and I know they have to iron and fold it poroperly....and study, and clean, and do push-ups....lol, that's why they don't have time to write during the week.

TimmysMomma I am so sorry to hear about your mom. That must have been so hard for you and him both. Scooter was able to do alot of letter writing during his 3 days SIQ. He does some writing at night too I think.
We will be getting there Thursday afternoon. From what I hear they get to leave right after PIR unless they are staying in GL for A school.

My SR had to wait since last July also before he was able to leave for bootcamp. It was a very long time to wait for him but like you I was glad to have the time and have him home during the holidays. My SR must be one of the older recruits - he is 23 and will turn 24 this summer. I'm also debating whether to take the free shuttle to the base or rent a car and drive onto the base. Does anyone know if you take the shuttle if the SR's can come on the shuttle with us after graduation or like TimmysMomma asked do we have to go back and pick them up for liberty?

My SR also was last July. He is also 18 and will be 19 in May. I plan to just drive on the base.

Scooter was at MEPS on his 19th birthday in July....he waited 8 months to leave.
