I have been getting a lot of mail from my son lately, as all of you said I am counting the days down and he is too! I just think that it is going much slower for him. He said he will be flying out Wednesday the 16th to his school in Austin ,Texas. He also mentions a lot of marching happening right now. Does anyone know how being deployed after training works? He is in the reserves they are telling him right now that after school he will probably be deployed to Iraq? Is this really how it works? It has him a little freaked out and me as well?
Well we are driving in on the 10thand have to leave the 16th -what do they do until they move to their schools?
Also anyone, when going to PIR is it better to shuttle or drive yourself in? Trying to get the details all ready!-R
Rhonda, I read in another posting somewhere that taking a shuttle is a little easier. You are let off at the gate and the walk to the building isn't as far. Also, it is not as complicated getting in either. With the shuttle you just need picture ID (I'm taking 2 forms of ID and my SS card.) I understand those under 12 need a birth certificate but I'm not 100% sure about that. Hope this helps. Our family is taking the shuttle.
My usuall day to get letters are also on Thursday. We'll see if we get a letter today and what it says. He was mentioning something about him staying on base until the 16th also. I've also asked him what he wants to do while we are in Illinois, but it was in a letter so I have to wait for a response. Does anyone know exactly how the meet and greet will go? I wonder if there will be areas with all of the ships and divisions.
Good morning, 7 days to go!!!!!!!!!
There was talk on the PIR 6/11/10 site about making signs for cars stating GL bound GO Navy PIR 6/11/10. I think I will do this for our rental car, anyone else interested? What about those in Division 216 wear a specific color to help identify ourselves. How does this sound?
That sounds like a great idea..what color?
Laurel, I like the idea of a specific color for Div 216. I like "Navy blue" and I may have Colby's name on the upper left hand side. I'm going to Wal-Mart and get some of the colored foam or poster board and cut out the letters and put on the back of our truck window. If there's enough room I want to add 11-216 (Ship 11 Div 216). Sounds like most are leaving Tues or Wed that are driving. Pawpaw has decided he wants to leave Tues. He'd leave today if he could.
Ok are we wearing a specific color or not and is this for the Meet N Greet or graduation. Let me know
My take on this is just for the meet and greet.
How about Ship 11 Division 216 wear the color --- Navy Blue ---
We leave on Wednesday but really could leave this minute if I could.
Hi, Saw this web site when my son left in April, been a rough couple months sense, younger son in car accident (recovering). I just had a minute to visit. Edouard in Ship 11 / Division 216. I'm getting ready to leave next week from Phoenx and so nerves. I am coming in late Thrusday and if I can get there early enough will stop by Ramada (is it?) for the meet and greet. I wish I would have communicated with you all sooner then this.
Hi Eddiesmom, Well I hope you can make it to the Meet N Greet. Well it's good that you are here now, and I hope you younger son is doing better.
Ship 11 Division 216 are we still wearing Navy Blue to the Meet N Greet.
