Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 047 and 048

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important

Every single concern is genuine

Every single member is important to us

We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Boms_wife your conversation sounds about the same as mine with my son.  He said they are starting to get more opportunity to talk with the recruits further along and finding out that it's all part of the process, they aren't any worse than the others but that's what the RDC has to do.  He said it's getting better though now that they are done with the processing.  My son was a Yeoman but gave up the job because he didn't get any of the needed training for inspections and such.  He said he's sleeping better than he expected (he's 6'2") and the foods pretty ok!

The being a yeoman thing worries me a bit. He said because he's a yeoman, he doesn't have alot of time to study. When the division is in the classroom learning, he and the other two yeomans are in the office doing office work and so it makes it hard to learn the material that he needs to learn. I told him that being appointed yeoman means the RDC thought he can handle the job, but if he can't he needs to let them know. He sounded really sad and tired, but I hope that getting to talk to me will help lift up his spirits. He sure sounded better by the time we got off the phone. He's the oldest one in their division and everyone has taken to calling him "Dad".

I'm sure talking to you lifted his spirits more than anything!  They'll have a great week and the next time you talk or hear from him he's going to be doing great!  My son says he still helps the yeoman so they are working together sounds like.  My son said most of their division was doing great, a few that need to step it up but for the most part everyone knows what they are there to accomplish.

I'm glad your son is helping out my husband! Maybe they're even becoming friends. This makes me so happy! Maybe we'll get to meet each other at PIR!

Looking forward to it!

Yall's conversation sounds about the same as mine with my son. It was a short 7 minutes he sounded sad and homesick and said some of the others weren't following commands and they're were getting punished with extra PT. They sent out letters today and he wasn't sure when he'd be able to call again. I tried to lift his spirits and hope I did but told him to keep pushing through and it will get better. Hopefully this will be the roughest part

That's my hope as well, they should have the worst behind them, not that it's easy but hope the worst is behind and as they get used to this new life it gets better for them. The ones doing well need to bring up the ones not yet following commands. So good to hear his voice and hope it was as good a boost for them!!

My conversation with my son (Ship 14 Div 048) was 8 minutes and he was very homesick.  It was so hard hearing the emotion in his voice and not being able to "fix it".  My son has always been incredibly smart and physically strong but this is his first time away from home, for any real length of time.  I told him to stay strong, he has a future to build.  And we will be there to see him very soon!!

I was so happy to see the 847 exchange on my phone tonight.  My son (Ship 14 Div 047) was about 15 minutes long.  He sounded positive, said he passed the swim and the run and was excited about that, even though he has to redo it again.  Said they did not do well on their 1st inspection.  They were able to send letters out.  He was surprised that we did not receive his form letter.  Just so happy to hear his voice.

My son is ship 14 division 048 he called this evening but connection was not good. He said he can see us on Christmas Day anyone know any details on that?
I supposed he was talking about the Adopt A Sailor progran. If you live near GL, you can have him with you and one other sailor for Christmas, but you have to fill out a form that he sends you.
Did anyone get to ask their SR what training day they are on? I was so bent on making my SR feel better that I forgot to ask.
