Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

We received a phone call yesterday from the recruiter stating that my sons ship date had been post poned to Feb 2017 due to budget cuts. Has anyone heard of this or possiblily know whats going on. HELP! I don't want him to get discouraged.

3 of the Future Sailors in my daughters DEP group had the same thing happen yesterday! They were all supposed to ship out next week and now are being told October at least! So far my daughter hasn't received a call. Think is certain rates that are postponing! What rate is your son? My girl is scheduled to leave on August 2nd.

How do you find out if your Future Sailors rate is non-critical or over-manned? Should I go on the assumption that no news is good news?

I can't find a current CREO list online, but I do have a page where if you follow the links provided, you can look at FY (fiscal year) manning by individual rating.  Let me know if you need help with a particular rate.  Once you find the right "community" and rating, you will want to look at "community overview".

CREO/REGA Categories Updated
The Career/Reenlistment Objectives (CREO), Rating Entry for General
Apprentices (REGA) and the critical skills Navy Enlisted Classification codes
(NEC) have been updated and released.
Following September’s junior petty officer advancement exams, the message was
updated to provide rating availability for non-designated strikers, advancement
forecasts, CREO rating classifications, a list of critical skills and Perform to Serve
(PTS) guidance.
Ratings that are designated CREO 1 are
considered undermanned; CREO 2 ratings
are manned at the desired levels and
CREO 3 ratings are over-manned. Overall,
10 ratings have moved from CREO 3 to
CREO 2 at the E-4 level.
Ratings that continue to show promise at
the E-4 level are Construction Mechanic
(CM), Damage Controlman (DC),
Illustrator/Draftsman (DM), Dental
Technician (DT), Hospital Corpsman (HM),
Intelligence Specialist (IS), Information Systems Technician (IT), Musician (MU),
Quartermaster (QM) and Religious Program Specialist (RP).
Sailors in ratings that have changed categories to CREO 2 or 3 may begin
submitting PTS applications now.
For Sailors whose rating have changed to CREO 1 but have previously received
direction to convert or separate under the PTS program, the PTS decision remains
valid and they will continue to convert or separate.
For more information on PTS and CREO/REGA, contact your command career
counselor.

Yah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New ship date was received on yesterday and now it will be November instead of February.. He will miss the holidays though.

Have a Thanksgiving dinner early, before he ships, then celebrate Christmas with him at PIR!

tdashber, if I may ask, did your son have to pick a new rate?

Our son got the same call, told he would ship out Feb. 2017 and yesterday found out that his rate has be dissolved/taken away/gone... so he either had to pick what was left.  He has been in DEP since last August, and was super excited to be leaving July 19th. Now he has been told the only job available is Hospital Corpsman. He is NOT HAPPY AT ALL and feels pressured. My husband and I have spoken with several people who were active duty ( 3 different branchse) and they all said if our son has his heart set on a certain area/rate, he should wait, tear up his contract and start again. Or go speak with another branch. At this point he is very frustrated and doesn't want to talk about it. Im doing my best to not interfere but encouraging him to NOT SIGN the paperwork for the HM rate.  It's so frustrating and I do understand it';s the military/federal government, budget, but it still sucks!

Mine got the same call for February, too! Now we got another for December ship date. Guess we'll have to get used to this...
