I'm new to the group. My son just left yesterday. I got a call late last night, but didn't get to talk to him. Our agreement was for him to leave a message so I can replay it during the coming weeks until the letters come. He didn't leave a message. My heart was broken!!! I literally cried myself to sleep. Any other moms with sons/daughters at RTC starting yesterday?

((((hugs))))

That initial call is super short and scripted - he may not have been allowed to leave a message.

He'll do fine - he'll be super sleep-deprived for the first few days but he'll be fine.

Write him a letter - keep it upbeat and positive. You won't be able to mail it until you get the form letter but you can write in the meantime.

It'll be okay. Being a Navymum isn't always easy but it's rewarding to know we raised our child to love and serve our country.

Instead of being heartbroken - focus on what a great job you did raising him. Know that he's fine (you'll be told if he isn't) and that no news is good news in the Navy.

My daughter left yesterday also. Its was so rough. I did get the call last night, very short and scripted as described. I miss her and cry alot but we have to hang in there, one day at a time. My daughter did say she may be calling again in about three weeks.

Hey Leslie,
My son left yesterday to. Hopefully they will become friends. I always get upset in the evenings and mornings. Or someone will ask me how am I doing and then I cry. Lol I also got my call last night and we did write each other notes so when I'm missing him I just read the letter. It still makes me cry thou but that's ok. These ladies are wonderful on here and we will travel this journey together. Hang in there.

Thank you, you too! The letter is a great idea.

Thanks. I've been writing him a letter a day as well. It does help. But I know our boys are still missed. Hang in there and take it one day at a time.  :) Hugss!!!

Shea please know you are not alone at all!❤️ I got a phone call from my son when he was landing and he was himself, then a couple hours later it was the scripted call. I cried for days!!! Keep yourself busy, focus on what he would want for you and write to him every day. I wrote a little something every day and just mailed it today. I got his address yesterday. You have to take one day at a time. It's all we can do... it's not easy but they are making us VERY proud!

Hi Timsmom,

I liked your comment. And you are right our sons would want us to focus on what he would want for us. I know thou when that box comes I'll be crying. I hope I get the box and letter sooner than later.
And yes they are making us very proud.

My son also just arrived yesterday! Same thing, big change in his tone from when he landed to the scripted call. Breaks your heart a little but I keep reminding myself how happy I will feel at the end of boot camp!
My son shipped out today... I’m still waiting for my call. I have been crying on and off all day... I had no idea it would be this hard! I have to keep reminding myself that he will be fine, I just miss him so much already
Big hugs sent your way! My daughter left on the same day. One day at a time, today seems little easier than yesterday. I was given the advice to write a letter so it will be ready when we get the address, it oddly helped. Stay upbeat and strong!

Hey Carlsmom,

Mine shipped out on Monday. These ladies are wonderful with their support and knowledge. I have been crying to but today was a little easier. I know it's so hard to get used to them not being here, that's what I'm trying to wrap my head around. Ugh!! I'm so proud of him, but I miss him. They are ok, they tell me in the navy no news is good news. I just have to remember our boys/girls are going thru an adjustment to. One day at a time and hang in there. Hugs!!

Hi, I am happy for all the recruits who were able to ship to boot camp yesterday. My daughter was supposed to go also but was put on a medical hold due to an unidentifiable rash. She has a new ship date of Jan.2, 2018. I am so heart broken for her. She is really sad she didn't get to go. She is in good spirits despite the set back. She has such a good heart and would love to go help out in TX, but I can't let her go, nor do I think the Navy would let her go until this rash is cleared up. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong.
