some general FIT info (with updates and cautions at the end... don't think the visit part is still true)

my son failed his last run just before battlestations, and we got the dredded "don't come I will not be in PIR" call.  Before I canceled our flights I did a lot of research on this and other sites and found out...

1. if you fail the run, you are moved to FIT and will re-try every other day until you pass

2. when you pass, you will be sent to the very next battlestations, even if it is that night.

3. You will have some liberty after battlestations before you are shipped off to A school.  Time varies depending on the school

4. the trainers at FIT will work hard to help your child achieve!

6. if they are able to pass the run the next day (if it is offered) they go to PIR right after battlestations, they sit in the balcony at the left end of the hall, not in front of the division...but we sat with the division and our son found us there afterwards. (b/c the schedule allowed for him to try again the night before)

we decided not to cancel the flights and to try to see him.  our prayer was just that.  HOWEVER he passed his test on the next run, went to battlestations that night and was at his PIR in the stands (they wouldnt let him march since he had now been up over 24 hours.  battlestations ended 7 am.)  He got to see all his division buddies, and had the whole day with us!  It was great!!!  There were 17 other kids who passed with Taylor.  Most parents had canceled their flights :(

It is a personal choice for each family once you get the call.  Cancel if you need to. no guilt.    However, if you can attend anyway, your child MIGHT be there, based on how quickly he passes and when battlestations are scheduled

hope this info helps!

(9/10/12)- I think this post created too many phone calls to the command.    I deleted some of the contact info.  please do not call the base.  My info about visits may no longer be true, but still know your kids are in good hands, and there is blessing for them in finding the resolve and courage to accomplish this goal for themselves.  I didn't delete the entire post b/c I think there is a lot of encouragement in the comments and replys, but please do not hold hope you will get to see our child.  Based on replies, the command is being very strict about visitors now...

sorry to hear about his delay.  do not loose heart.  It happens to many people.  There is a whole unit of kids in FIT.  He will have a chance to pass the test about every other day.  Once he passes, he will go on to the next BS21, and will be sent to his next post right after.  He might get to watch a graduation, but will not be part of one.

You can write to him at his old address and it will be forwarded, or use this address-

Recruit Training Command

FIT division- male

3510 Illinois Ave

Great Lakes, IL 60088-3119

I think he will only get the chance to call on Sundays, and will probably not call until AFTER battlestations.

Do you know where he is going next?  Do you have the ability to visit him?  Do not worry too much.  All of this really is good for them.  They learn they can achieve, and they do it on their own for themselves.  Whereever he goes next, it is more like college.  They have access to everything- computers, phones, etc.  You will be able to talk to him much more freely then :)

Hope this helps!

If they fail the swimming test, they retest several times each day.  He could pass any time Nyyoli!
I will be praying for him!
hello thanks for your careness..im hopeful always!!...i will keep ya posted ..when i get that call..i'll be jumping like crazy..:)
hello dani..thanks soo much yes it does help..n besides he was very sick also ,,n he fainted..so it delay him even more...so i do have hope and  i hope he does too..it can make them sad..did it happen to you also??,,hes goin to be a nuke ..maybe ship out to S.C...UNSURE WHERE yet..so its been only 1 wk still...thanks for the support...

my son is a nuke too.  Yes, your son will go to Goose Creek SC.When they first get there they are not allowed to have clothes or a car, but they live in a dorm with a small fridge and microwave.  My son wanted fitted sheets, his pillow, alarm clock, computer, ipod, shorts and a tshirt to sleep in.  He bought a TV (and his room mates use his)  He also needs a good pair of running shoes, a basic medicine cabinet, some snacks.  There is a subway near by, and they get to "town" on the weekends.  Classes are pretty much from 7 - 4 each day, and they are free to do what they want outside of class.  If their grades drop, they also get extra study hours from 6-10 pm.  Tell your son to work hard from the start, and do not fall behind.  Boot camp was stressful to my son.  He enjoys SC much more, but the studying is very hard!  His address there will be-

E3/ last name, first name
NFAS INdoctrination Division
Naval Nuclear Power Training Command
101 NNPTC Circle
Goose Creek, SC 29445

A school is 3 mos for EM and MMs and 6 mos for ETs.  My son got there in Aug, and will come home for the 1st time over Christmas

Good luck!  I do not know where you are from, so I do not know if you will get a chance to see him between boot camp and a school.

hello thanks for the info..im from QUEENS NY..n i will fly out to see him when he has sat n sun..off if he is allowed to..i just cant wait to see him again..n i wonder how long will he be at the fit program..n im not sure if he is in that program i only read things on here...he never told me anything ..only that he will call me when he passes..that was it..i guess i have to wait....;)

Nyyoli,

If he didn't PIR because he didn't pass the swim, then he is in FIT.  Once he passes Battle Stations, he will have some liberty and you will probably be able to visit with him (though you probably won't be able to get to go on base, you can meet him somewhere).

It probably won't be long--I'm sure he is working hard.  You may also be able to visit him once he phases up at A school.  In the case of my daughter, that was what I did--her A school was closer to home and we got more time together.

I'm looking forward to hearing you got that precious call!

Ruth

hey thanks ruth,,for the info,,,,i just want thim to pass n then of course i want to see him ,,n i know he does also...yeah im gonna be jumping like crazy!!..lol

im happy you had more time with your daighter..i will def keep your all posted n thanks alot .i feel alil better knowing ..cuz i called twice to rct..can i write to him still same div 11/351..his pir was 10.21.11..??

Oh thank you so much for this  information.I was sitting here with my heart about to break.

If your SR is determined, he/she will make it.  They really want these kids to pass, that's why they have the program.  Just be encouraging when you get a chance to talk to your kid and let he or she know that you believe they will succeed.  You probably won't know they have passed until you get the "I'm a sailor call" so just keep the blue candle lit.

hello all thanks for the support..my son passed .im so happy now ..i have a sailor!!!,,thanks to the fit program..my son made it....:)
