ProudNavyMom76, I was in your same spot when I let my one and only son go on 7/9. I'm still trying to adjust, but my days have gotten better. Lol. I had to change my mindset from "my baby is leaving me" to "his life as a man is beginning". I believe great things lay ahead of my son and your son as well ;) Although I will admit, having to take out the trash now and carry my cases of water inside to suck now. Lol

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in AugustYou will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Getting connected with others going through the same thing will help you. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

Hang in there, I know exactly how you are feeling, my daughter left on July 9, and miss her terribly.  As much as you can, enjoy and cherish the time, try not to think about how much longer till he leaves.  Know that it does get easier day by day, as they say time helps heal the heart.  I try to focus on the days remaining until i see her again, and remember how excited she was to start her new adventure.  It is not easy to let go, but remember you have raised an amazing son, be proud   :)

Thank you for your kind words, I am not ready for my son to leave and it is harder because he wants to spend all his time with his friends!!

My son left for BC on July 24th and I too wanted to spend time with him, but up until the night before we took him to the hotel he was with his friends (of which are all great kids). It was hard but it also prepared me for getting used to him not being here.  Trust me I'm not saying it's easy to let them go, I of all people know how hard it is, HE"S MY WORLD.....at dinner my husband said, "let's cut the umbilical cord now".....lol and we all laughed.  Just enjoy the time you have left and don't miss his Swearing In Ceremony.

You should be very PROUD of you son :-)   God Bless!

my son was in great lakes 2012.it turned out ok.he grew up.just write him everyday even if just to say hi.he really enjoyed getting mail.just make sure you don't send any cookies just letters and don't write anything on envelopes other than address.it passes quick.graduaction was great.god bless.joan

make sure all their bills are paid ahead because their checks are real small in boot camp.if they have a student loan they will hold payments for a couple of months just call and let them know sailor is at bc.

The discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., mentioins that and other things that the future Sailor needs to address before shipping.

My son starts BC on 8/14 as well. Leaving from Atlanta. I share your feelings. This is not easy....
