For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Son Leaving for Boot Camp on 7/24/13
I just joined this sight and have been reading a lot of discussions and I am finding it very helpful as my son is leaving Tuesday for St. Louis, I will go down and stay in a nearby hotel, and then he will be sworn in on Wednesday morning and report to GL that day. At first when he joined, I was so excited, thrilled for him but now it seems as I still feel that way I have a lot of break downs each day:( I know he will be okay....I have raised him to leave some day. I am thankful I still have my 10 year old at home so she will keep me busy for sure. I was wondering if anyone has been to the Swearing In Ceremony at the Government Building in St. Louis. Does anyone know how it is scheduled? Thank you for having me part of your group and I really appreciate the different things I have read.

Thanks for replying. It feels nice to talk to someone who is going through the exact same thing.
How are you doing with everything? You have a 10 year old daughter, also? That's great...thank God for them so they can keep us busy for sure:) I am doing okay. I seem okay until I sit for a moment and then think what is happening....then the tears come:( It's was crazy at the beginning of the week because my sons recruiter called Monday morning and told him to get going to the recruiter office because he was leaving Monday to MEPS - not Tuesday. So I got down there and watched him being sworn in on Tuesday morning...it was really great and I'm glad I could be there.
Where did your son leave from? How is your daughter doing with it? My daughter is missing him a lot.
I hope your days get better as I feel that if we, as moms, can get through the first couple weeks, we will be good and I also think the same for the boys, also.
What will your son do after basic?

He left from Jacksonville and we were there to see him get sworn in. His A school is in Pensacola. We're all doing better today I guess. I'll miss seeing his face everyday:( It does help to know there are other mom's feeling like me. We had this joke where every time he calls me he says "hi mom, it's me Jacob, your son" well, he said that to me when he made that last call when he got to boot camp and I almost lost it. Just gonna take a lot of getting used to.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in July, to connect with others with loved ones who left the same day and may have PIR together.
You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening, but you will also want to check out the other Pages in all of the groups.

My son left on the 24th also, I have those breakdown moments too. Hopefully it will get better for us. Definitely join the July DEP. I am widowed & he was my only child so it's hitting me very hard, but also very proud. If you need to chat, anytime. Take care

I am glad to hear I am not the only one having breakdown moments:) You know I find it weird that I am sitting here and pretending he is just sleeping in or with friends...haha My daughter keeps telling me pretend he is at Summer Camp:) I thought about what if Jordan was my only child since he was for the first 8 years and I cannot imagine how hard that is for you. I have a 10 year old daughter, but she usually goes to her dads about 2 days a week since we live in the same town....so she is headed there today and I think "What am I suppose to do - husband at work and Jordan gone - quiet house." I have a couple of friends whose sons are gone in the military also and they say I'll get use to it, but as you are probably feeling - WHEN????? :) Thank you for the e-mail an same here - ever want to chat, anytime is good with me, too. Have a great Saturday....I'm going to try to keep busy:) Take care!!!!

I have been trying to keep busy today too, I am getting ready to go to work to get my mind off things. I keep looking for my son to text or call. It's been us for the past 4 years, his father passed away so we are very close & this is a shell shock to me. Stay strong & take care.

My sailor left on July 25th for basic training at GL. Everyone says to keep busy but I've grown tired of writing letters that I can't send and I'm very worried that I haven't heard anything yet. I got the "I'm here phone call" but that's it and its bin a week. Have any of you heard anything as yet?

I know you are just learning, but you don't have a Sailor yet. While he is in BC, you should refer to him as your SR or Recruit. He will not be a Sailor until after completing Battle Stations-21 (BST) in the last week before PIR. Once you get the "I'm a Sailor!" call, then you can refer to him as your Sailor. Join the groups and check out the info in my reply above.

Good Morning,
I haven't heard anything yet. I got the box, but have not received the letter with his address yet. I've got many letters to send:) I am hoping to get a letter in the next week. Praying we hear something soon - I've always been a "Whatcha' doin? Where ya' goin? What's the plan for today?" kind of Mom - so the no communication is killing me:) I'll let you know when I hear something so hopefully it will be a little timeline for you of when maybe you will since they entered only 2 days apart. Try to have a good week:)
