My son is signed up and ready tog but his ship date is not until March 15th. I am already feeling anxious about him leaving. And I am trying to get used tothe idea that he will not be living near me for at least the next 5 years, maybe longer. That is the hard part. I know it is for the best. And I know he wants this more than anything so I am so happy for him and so proud of him.

I hope to make friends on here who understand what I am feeling. Unless you have been there and done that it is hard for anyone to understand. So if anyone is from around Martin county or just anyone at all Iwould love to communicate.

Thanks Ozzy - my son is my one and only child (I know that doesn't make it any harder for me than it does for a mom who has 15 children)! March seems far away but it will be here before we know it : ( We can wait and share our experiences together!

Today was the DEP's softball tournament. I did go for a few minutes to check it out and watch my son play a few innings. I don't think he wanted me to go since he didn't even tell me about the tournament (found out about it from one of this PO's who attended his HS graduation last Thursday). He seems to be pulling away and wanting to do more on his own and become his own man. I understand that but it sure is hard on old mama! However he is 17 and I remember when I was 17 I didn't want my mom hanging around me! LOL
Hello sandman713...my son leaves just after yours on March 21st. So now we wait together...............
Hi jdmom - will your son be going to Great Lakes? How old is he? I think a lot of us will be waiting together and hopefully we will all become friends and be able to share our experiences!
Yup, I believe they all go to Great Lakes for BC. I forget where he said his A school will be. He is 21, did two years of college and then decided it wasn't the route for him. Congrats on your son's graduation from HS. What job did he sign on for?
For some reason I was under the impression they could go to Florida also (maybe that was for A school???) - I tried to talk my son into going to school for a couple of years and get his core classes out of the way but to him it wasn't an option - even if he did go to college here in Michigan he most likely wouldn't find a decent job. My son's job will be first response damage controman (from what I read his duties will be like a fireman) What about your son - what's your son's assignment. (Thanks for adding me as your friend - you're my first - LOL - I didn't know you could do that - I still have a lot to learn about this site - I am very much a newbie!)
Welcome to the site. I have found so much support and information on this site. Everyone has been so encouraging. You are among friends here!
Hello alemap118, my son is currently in Great Lakes and we will be attending his PIR on 7/09. Your post caught my eye. Reading it made me feel as if I was reading one of my own posts. Finding Navyformoms.com was the only thing that helped me to feel like I was not going completly insane. I truly felt like I was losing it at times. The tears started the day that the recruiter came to our home and our son took a practice test. By complete luck, I came across Navyformoms.com while I was searching the internet trying to learn everything that I possibly could about our sons life choice. I wish that I could tell you that your feelings will ease as the next 9 months pass, but from my experience, the emotions and tears just continued and more frequently.. You have found the most incredible site and the most wonderful group of people, who have all felt exactlly what you are feeling, and will be your support group and help to brighten spirits, share information, answer questions, or just maybe share a 2am cry with you. I am here if you ever need someone to talk with.
THank you so much for this. Yes after I have found this site and put up my post, I have had so many people feel the same way I do. I do not feel alone any longer. I am actually doing much better. I am trying to focus on h time I have here at home with him and I am even trying to help him foster a better relationship with his dad. (we are divorced) I am here for you too! just remeber that!
Hello alemap118, just thought that I would check in say hello. We are packed and ready to leave for PIR on Wednesday. I think that it is wonderful that yoiu are encouraging a better relationship with his Father. What a wonderful thing for you to do for your son. Will check in again once back from PIR, until then, enjoy every moment.
My son today is at meps He was there yesterday and today finds out what jobs he is qualified for He will be entering after he finishes his last semester of community college in December I too only have one son and I feel like I have permanent pms The emotions are insane from intense pride to extreme anxiety and everything in between I cry just about every day and its so early in the process yet I do enjoy reading these posts and know Dan is doing what he wants and that he does make good decision
Hi dans mom...if you are like me today will be a long day until you hear from him. Keep us posted and welcome to the wait. I tell myself not to think about it but that is impossible.
Hang in there I know it will get better. I still have those emotons but I am coming tobetter terms with it. I know this is what he wants more than anything and I know this is what he needs. So I keep telling myself that there is nothing from stopping me from visiting him when he gets settled after bootcamp etc. And he will be home once in a while and oh the thechnology we have now, texting, emails phones. Last week my son texted me a picture that he took of a picture of him when he was little. Ugh!!! it made me cry but I didnt let him know that!.
