my son is leaving this july for bootcamp.
This is my baby (stepson, it's very weird to say/write that, because he is MY SON) My husband has had custody, and I have raised him his entire life. So I have mixed emotions, I have heard that I may not be able to get any information on him. I can't imagine that because as a mom I have always been the one to do everything. Has anyone been through this or can anyone give advise? I'd really appreciate it!
Next, is I'm planning a Boot Camp going away party, hopefully not going over board, but it is keeping my mind off things.
invites-check
place having it at home- check
I have bought the rubber wrist bands with his name,an anchor and american flag to give to the guests.
took an idea from other people, getting post cards so guests can write something to him and we can send them while he is in boot camp.
any ideas?
Thanx in advance for reading this

You may want to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in July, to connect with others who have loved ones leaving in July and who may even end up training with your son. I also suggest you join New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages and Discussions there.
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there.

I'd recommend getting cards instead of post cards unless you want to edit what some may decide to write... Others besides your son will be able to read the post cards.
Keep the party simple so YOU can enjoy it! We made desserts and then just bought pizzas so we could relax and pretend it was just another fun family get together. It worked and we had a great day!
You can buy him a St. Patrick's medal for him to wear with his uniform, but it has to be smaller than his dog tags when he attaches it to his chain.
