I think this is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Walking away and leaving him at the recruiters office to shop and I felt as if I was abandoning my child. I am very proud of him and a proud Navy km om but knowing he won't be home tonight is breaking my heart. I need these 8 weeks to go by quickly.

My son left  today as well for BC. He's my baby!  He should be boarding the plane now...I know what you are going through!  What an exciting time for him though.  My daughter joined the Air Force at age 18 and I remember how that felt as well!  I promise, the 8 weeks will go by quickly.  I'm going to start his Navy album with articles, etc., to help me with the "missing him"!  My daughter loved getting her Air Force album after her 1st year was over.  Hang in there mom - We'll get through this and see 'em soon!!!

Here's a big (((((HUG))))) Mom. It's so hard saying goodbye to our Sailors.

I cried for a week when my son left. But with the support of the Moms here, I got through it and you will too.

What helped me too was to stay busy. My house was never so clean.

My son left today also. I was grateful that we all got to see him sworn in and then we all went to the airport had lunch together took some pictures and said our good byes.  It feels strange at home right now, i am very anxious to receive his call. DeniseA - i like your idea of a Navy album.  I may have to start putting one together.

Son just called. They went to dinner and have one more stop before going to base. He sounded great!

Amy, I feel your pain. We left our son at the hotel last night.  I wish I'd known that we could have gone to MEPS with him today. But,  just got a call from my son.  He is at airport waiting to board, which should be about now. I guess it's one more call tonight and then nothing for another 3 to 4 weeks. It was so sad opening his bedroom door today.  I miss him already.  When he went away to college, we'd see him every 2 to 3 weeks and talk to him at least every 2 to 3 days.  It sure will be different this time. I'm sure this site will be a lifesaver for many of us!  Thank you to all who have gone through this and share their experiences.

Amy - it makes it so much better when you know exactly what is going on. Go read these two threads...

Once your PIR group opens up, you'll have so much fun....

I feel your pain.  My son left last week.  Cried for 3 days.  Hang in there friend.  You have come to the right place.  We are all in this together.

Mine left yesterday too, I was half a sleep when he called. I think I remember three calls and box being mailed. Is this right?

Oh my goodness, how well we all understand this. I just dropped my son off on december 3rd and had to drive past him and his recruiter in the parking lot and just smile and wave..... aughghgh!!! I understand..... I wanted to stop and say , wait a minute, hold up!!! LOL.... I just encourage myself and other new navy moms with the thought that they are following their dream and bettering their lives and the pride they will feel serving the the greatest country in the worlds greatest Navy in the world. Pat yourself on the back .... you are strong , you raised a Sailor, Mama .It is tough on us because it is a severing of that ol umbilical cord.  He is my youngest and he has a personality that draws people, including his mama in so this has been tough!!! Like i mentioned to our group on FB, i'm not belittling a kid going off to colleges moms experience at all but at least they have some time to prepare and can have contact over the phone etc.  Our SR's join the navy and within weeks / months poof they are whisked off, right? LOL. They will have important and as much as we hate to think of it, have possibly some danger in their jobs. We have to put them in Gods protective hand. He will make you so very proud , Mama.  Your son that you raised will make all of us proud.  You protected him all these years and now it has come full circle, they are being trained to protect us.... Awesome!! Big hug to you today.

My daughter just left on the 10th for BC. She did a year at college first so I thought that I'd be more prepared for this but it hasn't helped me one bit! lol  This is soooo different and so much harder than leaving her at school.  I just can't wait for my first call!!  I already started writing even though I don't have her address so she'll be bombarded when I do lol  Hoping they'll let them call on Christmas....

Hi, ladies!

My daughter left 4 years ago Sunday.  I drive past MEPS almost daily on my way to work.  Some days I still tear up thinking about it being the last place my daughter was "my baby".  Most days I smile and think about it being the gateway to her future and dreams!  Cry when you need to and puff your chest out in pride other times.  Our kids are TRULY AMAZING human beings!

I'm sure you've heard it all...join groups.  Join their PIR group when you get that information.  Join a group for their rate.  Join a group from your home State.  There are wonderful people here who are going along on this journey with you.

I'm taking a piece of the "kid in a box" to have it framed this weekend.  She wrote me a quick "I love you!" on the inside and I am finally ready to put it on the wall as a wonderful reminder of her first communication home.

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance, I love hearing others stories and telling my own!

Take care!

Is that correct? 4 years ago? Have you seen her since?
