For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Son Shipped today 10-24-2011 (anyone else)
Hello everyone,
I am new here. My 21 year old son (my baby) left for the Navy today. I am so very proud for him ! But the other side of that coin, I miss him like crazy already.
He is very strong and will do well. He and I are very close.
Dear lord, this is so hard.... I just cannot quit thinking about them being in his face, yelling at him, belittling him, making him feel stupid.... I know he will be fine and I know he will be a much stronger individual after he does this, I know this is the best thing for him..... I guess I am taking it hard...
Anyway, I know I am rambling.. sorry :(
Even though I dont sound like it right now, I am VERY excited for him and his future . :)

You're not taking it hard. You're being a mom. Imagine if he were only 18 which is how old most of these kids are. Spend A LOT of time on this site. It will help.

My son left today as well. He is on the plane right now heading to Chicago. It is sad no matter how old he is. My son is 26. We all know it's the right thing and a great decision they made, but that doesn't mean we won't miss them. Stay on this site. Look for the group for his Pass in Review date and we will all get through these eight weeks together.

As for the yelling, etc., when you write to him, remind him that they are just doing their job. It's not personal and it's short-lived. The weeks of bootcamp will end soon enough and the yelling will be over (hopefully). He just needs to try to tune it out if you know what I mean.

My Son left yesterday Monday, 24 Oct 11 for bootcamp in Great Lakes. I received a 54 second phone call last night at 10:13pm..Hi mom I made it, I only have 2 minutes to talk, tell everyone I love them. You will be getting a box with some things in it soon. Love you gotta go :-)! So good to know he made it safely.

I too heard from my son monday nite at 8:30 pm . I received my box also by thursday,could not believe how quick it came. I'v had a crazy week and miss him like crazy esp today EAGLES vs COWBOYS !!!!! MY son loves his EAGLES (PHILLY). Starting the 2nd week hope his grad day will be DEC 16th.

I did not get a phone call. We had been texting though. I last heard from him at about 7:45 p.m.

Sure is going to be hard with him not here for the holidays. He said they may rush them through so they can be done by Christmas. I just dont see how this would be possible, so I am trying not to get my hopes up. Anyone else heard anything about it ?

My son shipped out Oct 24th too. He called me from cell phone when he landed about 8pm but haven't heard from him since then :( I am new to this site and am just learning my way around. This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with, I am sure he will do great though and they are all in this together as well as us "Moms" :)

My son shipped out on 10-24 as well, and I've been an absolute mess (not in front of him). I got the "15 second" phone call at 2:00 am this morning after his plane left here at 5 pm last night. I fell asleep late assuming I wouldn't hear from him at all. It sounded like a madhouse whereever he was - and at that time it meant he had already been up 24 hours.
Anyways, he was a DEP for 9 months and I thought this day would never get here. Now that he's shipped out, like you, I'm worried about him, anxious, and miss him so much I'm in tears... a LOT! So unexpected. I feel like a part of me is missing. And I feel like a total sap saying that because I like to think I can handle this stuff... not so to the surprise of me and everyone around me. hahaah
A friend of mine who was in the same position a year ago told me to start writing now and that when I get "the kid in a box" or the first letter from him with his address I can start mailing them. Plus it's therapeutic for me and also for him just writing about mundane things. My big question is when to expect PIR (graduation)... will it be Christmas Eve? Someone said he may be in a "push unit" which could get him through (if all goes well with him) in 7 weeks instead of 8. I guess I'll just be surprised when I get that official letter. :)
Now that I've found this site, I need to go explore and dive in so that I can feel a little calmer about it all and feel like I'm not alone. =)
