Hello my son leaves 7/15. Time goes by fast. He is excited and I am experiencing everything from excitement to sadness. Hopefully I can keep it together the day he leaves.

Mine leaves the same day!  Wonder if they will be together once they get to training camp?

What are sending you sending off with him  -- other than his wallet with a phone card?

We re planning just the wallet and cell phone. I am trying to convince him to donate the clothes...postage will be cheaper and the clothes most likely won t fit once he is finished BC. Where is your son going to school after BC?

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I left additional info on your My Page.

Hi- my son leaves on the 16th and I am hoping to be able to keep it together too!  I have asked my son to record me a message on my phone so I can have that to keep as a little gem while he is gone. He agreed to do it for me and I am not sure if the message will cheer me up or make me sad but I will have it at least. It is funny that as his Mom I have always been the strong one who knew what to do and knew it would all be fine and now I think the roles have reversed a bit and I am asking him to do that for me. Really deep down I know it will be great and he will have an amazing time- but I am a little nervous about the adjustment of getting used to being away from him! I wish you all the strength you need to get through it!

What a great suggestion!  Thank you!  I am having family member write notes to send along with him to read during his travels.

My son leaves the same day :) I have good and bad moments.  I know he is going to be amazing -- he has wanted this since the 6th grade.  He will be 20 in a few months. He waited to make sure that this is really what he wanted. He is a great kid and has always been a homebody.  I am going to miss him so much and I try so hard to be strong while he is around.  I have just recently gone through breast cancer and he has been such a rock!  I am fine now so he feels like he can leave without having to worry … which is true!!  I am so extremely proud of him!  We are throwing him a going away party so everybody can get in lots of love before he leaves.  Got phone cards and stamps … think thats pretty much all they can take.

I am excited also for him and then I realized he'll be celebrating his 19th birthday in BC. At first it saddened me then I thought he will be doing what he wants to do and starting a new chapter in life. We re party planning also. Prayers to you for your recovery and continued strength.

Thank you! It has definitely been a journey the past year and a half but now its his time to shine and I know he will :)) Best of luck to you and your son as well.

My son leaves the 15th as well, he is older (25) and married (they are living with us now and DIL will til he is done with A-school).  He has a brother at GL right now, just finished his first week and I got the form letter today.  The one leaving the 15th will be my 3rd sailor, so I shouldn't be nervous.. oh but I am.  When you drop him off, have him wear clothes he can wear for swearing in next day and travel.  If it is something he can donate great.  Send toiletries he can just throw away after getting ready in AM.  So all he should send back would be clothes (unless he donates) and phone and any paperwork (I made mine send back his plane ticket and all paperwork for a keepsake), he tossed his shoes and socks (for my sake when I opened the box).  Oh yea if you can (might ask recruiter) send a couple of snacks, it is a long long wait til they get to take their plane/bus ride.  I also made a small (business card size) phone/address card to fit in his wallet and included an inspirational saying on it.

My son  21 next month is shipping out 16th for BC too leaves me on 15th.  Dates have been changed a couple times.now its here I am not ready at all nothing done I thought I had so much more time left!!  He is super excited too  My son was asking about shaving things last night I didnt know!!   I finally had him read navydep site then I saw him on it today I think he found them interesting. Really going to miss him here even thought we do butt heads at times. His sister is going to be lost without him..  My sister and her husband just flew in from out of the country to see him today.. Hoping to throw a party next week with his friends.  When I stop to think about it or if a friends or family ask me I almost started crying last week I just have to get through this week as the date just happened all of a sudden... but it was coming !!!   What type of phone cards you guys get?

Good Morning Everyone!!

Where do I start! I was just informed from my sons recruiter that he will be leaving July 13 to the Hotel and Head to the Neps on the 14th! (Is it Neps or Meps?) I am a mess!! It is such a bitter sweet! My heart is aching! I am crazy however I am definitely going to the Neps station to see him swear in! I apparently enjoy the torture. I am excited for what the future holds for all of our children. God Bless our children.
