Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Stationed in Japan
Has anyone had their sailor stationed in Japan? My boyfriend just sent me a text that said "Japan :/ ." It's the one place that we were hoping that he wouldn't get sent because I can't follow him there.
He's been talking about getting legally married before we can afford to have a ceremony with our families, but I've been fighting him tooth and nail because then the ceremony'd feel kinda anticlimactic. After 6 1/2 years, I just want to be officially his. Now I think I want to be legally married before he goes, this way it'll just feel like a long engagement and there'll be nothing anticlimactic about when he comes back.
What's gonna happen while he's in Japan?

Do join the Japan moms group and the group for the ship/base where he will be at. You can get a lot of details there.
If you marry before he goes, they will not change his orders to include you. However, if he is an E-4 or above, he can put in a request to have you command sponsored. That would get you there and let you stay legally. Sometimes these requests are approved, other times, not. Takes a few months, up to a year. E-3 and below are not authorized dependents there, so it may not matter at all.
Apply for your passport now, you never know if you will want to visit him there. A name change later is easy, and they are good for ten years. I strongly suggest he get one also even though he won't "need" it. It just makes travel easier if something comes up.
To me, and this is just my opinion for you to ignore if you wish, the marriage is far more important than any wedding or ceremony for the families.
What happens when he gets to Japan? Depends on where he's stationed and his rate. I was there 12 years and I loved it.

Thanks... they're not officially his orders yet, so we will be getting married before they become his orders. I didn't know about E3 and under, though. He's an E3 now and won't be E4 for another couple months.

If he has verbal orders, and he is not married, that's the orders he is most likely to get. Unaccompanied. He should talk to his detailer and see if anything can be done. I'm sorry, but "before orders" includes verbals too. He needs ot gather as much information as he can from official sources as soon as possible.
