I made reservations and still need background clearance to stay and they told me I can because I am a family member of a recruit at the Gateway. Either way my dad was retired Air Force, so my mom has a military ID, but they assured me we could stay anyway. You can schedule 30 days out, so call now. I am trying to figure out if our son can join us in our room there, I ready he could not. But, I think I also read that he could obtain a pass to allow him to... Haven't found the place I saw that yet, but will post again if I do.
He must get a deviation chit in order to visit you at the Gateway if he stays at GL for "A" School or training. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.
Keep in mind the chits are not always approved, if there was "issues" with other people there they will deny all chits to go to the Gateway Inn. If that happens your new Sailor won't be able to just hang out with you and take a hot long shower (which most want to do). I would recommend staying elsewhere
Please check the Navy Lodge. We have rooms available. We are a military facility and we do not require the background check. We are located in the Base housing area.
We stayed at the Ramada, and it was nice. I really feel that it isn't worthy of ALL of the negative reviews. It IS an older hotel, but other than the pool area it was clean, and breakfast was pretty yummy. By all means....if you're an impatient or excited person (as I am), take the shuttle to PIR. We tried to drive it and said screw it, and got a shuttle. Long, long lines....
hey my son graduates in July, so are you saying to do the shuttle from the hotels rather than drive onto base?
You need to do what is best for you and your family. Read the info in PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) including the hints provided in the links at the top and decide. I invite you to join that group while you are there and to check out the other Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) as well. Here are the links for the July PIR groups:

How do you make a reservation at the navy lodge? Can you catch the shuttle fro mm there and back? Will they transport my sailor?
