well, my son landed at RTC early this evening...no later than 4pm est....I thought that initial call from him would come when they first (so to speak) got there....should I not start w/my anxiety issues yet? (like that's not already happening!) Anyone else have a child they are waiting to hear from that arrived at RTC today?  Thanks! ~Tina

I am waiting too.

Thank you jfrier, I feel better now!! :o(

My son arrived at the airport moments ago and gave me a quick call from his cell phone. Haven't received the "official" call yet.

The last call I had was before he boarded out of here....nothing since he landed...Feeling better about not being the only one! Thank you!!

Sometimes the official "I'm here" calls don't happen. In processing can be hectic and controlled chaos.  No news is (frustrating) good news.

Thanks Anti M - I thought I had myself prepared for that.....guess not well enough! :o/

I think you can relax a little, Tina! From what I gather from newer Navy moms, kids have tons of paperwork, uniforms and things to sort out when they arrive... He will call you in due time! Back in the days (LOL! 10 years ago) we did not get the "I'm here" call nor the "I'm a Sailor" call... Guess we went by faith!

Hold on and enjoy the journey... some days might be bumpy, but the destination will make it all worthwhile!

Good luck to your SR! ...and try to relax (I know, I know... just try!)

I hear ya Lauryburg - mine was 23 years ago...and no such thing as a "call mom let her know you're alive" was happening then either....I guess sicne I know its "supposed" to happen, I keep watching the clock - hubby is trying to keep me calm.

But, you & Anti M are right - I know (overall) he's in good hands, and not necessarily having a good time - especially since he had to be at MEPS at 5am today..he's probably just wanting everything to stop so he can sleep. :o)

Are any of you ladies from the midwest area? Cody left out of Columbus this afternoon.

I just got my call!!! and burst into tears when we hung up! Hubby is so confused! :) So good to hear his voice.......dont know how my parents did it so long ago when it was me.....but oh my lord does this suck! SO VERY PROUD!!!

Well I never got the official call. I did get one from the airport about  10:00 ,saying he made it. I have had a long and sleepless night. He is my first to leave and I way more attached than I thought.

Oh no! I'm so sorry!!! It seems like there were a lot of late arrivals....thinking that he may have thought it too late...my son had been there for several hours before he was able to call me; it was quick, but he was calm, could here a lot of ciaos in the back ground, but he sounded calm. If your son didn't get to the airport until 10pm, it might have been really late by the point of being able to make a call. I know there was another mom who posted something about getting a call later on since the first one didn't come...praying you get one! or at least a note in his box!

My daughter called from a payphone at O'Hayre yesterday evening, but no call from her at the RTC yet.....
