Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son called this evening and said that he has been diagnosed with three stress fractures in his feet.  He was set to go to San Diego for SWCC A School on June 21, and now has been told that he must stay at Great Lakes and go through rehab with a leave date in Aug. if he heals.  If he doesn't, he will be required to choose another job.  I have a couple of questions here.

 

Has anyone had expereince with the stress fractures--do they heal well, is there hope or is this a sign that he will be required to go a different route?

 

He said they also told him he had flat feet.  Can he do anything (buy arch supports for shoes, etc.) to help prevent this in the future?  Will the flat feet thing be a reason for him to be dismissed???

 

If he cannot complete the SWCC program and must choose aother job-----willhe still get a signing bonus?  He really needed that bonus.....

 

We are in Louisiana and it is so hard having him so far away and not being there to encourage him through this.  Any advice/prayers will be greatly appreciated for how I can help him during this questionable time.........  He has made several Facebook posts about how he is "living the dream."  I am hoping and praying that his dream is not coming to an end.

My son was injured during bootcamp and was transferred to RCU at week 5 day 1. Initially they thought he had stress fractures in his femur but subsequently found that the injury was to his knee. There are a lot of moms on the Bootcamp forum and in the Bootcamp Moms Group whose children have had stress fractures. I think the main thing is to keep weight off of the injured area to allow the bones to heal. He just needs to do absolutely everything the doctors and physical therapists tell him and fight, fight, fight! Flat feet, I know nothing about though.

As to changing rates, my sailor found out during his "spec physical" that he has a degree of color blindness or color "perception" that would exclude him from his rate and he'd have to choose another job. Of course if it was outside the Nuke field, he would lose his bonus. Was considering Seabees until he was given a waiver for his vision. There are still jobs in Nuke that he can't do because of his vision but will be MM but now he will receive his bonus (IF he passes his classes)
Thanks for replying. I will check the bootcamp forum for ideas. My son has completed the boot camp phase and was waiting for the transfer to A school in San Diego. He was only 13 days from the transfer........
